Before I go to my apt. Manager I'd like to see if I can take care of this myself. Does anyone have any advice on how to clear up a clogged shower drain? Or know of a liquid that really works? I've already tried a snake, but I think its as far down as it will go and I can't get anything out. Please help. Thank You!

My toilet sometimes flushes fine but often does not and will overflow unless it is plunged fast enough.

Even when I dump a pale of water into the bowl, the toilet still will not flush unless I plunge it.

I do not think there is anything wrong with the toilet and am wondering if the plumbing may be the problem.

I have look into the common problems but cannot explain why it sometimes drains fine and other times overflows.
Is it possible that too narrow of drainage pipes could be causing this? Could it be that there is a vacuum buildup preventing the flushing?

So in my basement, there is a ceiling to cover up the wood, plumbing, and whatnot. The problem is that the ceiling doesn't cover the entire area up so there are alot of spaces between the ceiling and wall for spiders to go through. I constantly see spiderwebs everywhere and anytime I see a spider I kill it but there are too many I think. Here is a picture of what kind of spaces between the wall and ceiling I'm talking about:

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd101/KewlBum88/DSCF0760.jpg
You can even see parts of a spiderweb in the pic.

My question is how can I seal these spaces up so that spiders and other bugs can't go through them. I thought about just taping it but I figure that wouldn't be enough. Please help!! I hate spiders and they ruin my beautiful basement. HELPPP

I live in a very rural area and have a shed with no outside electricity, but someone has tried to break in and I'd love to have a bright light come on if there's any motion near the door.

Hey guys, my window unit air conditioner is acting like it wants to blow a fuse every now and then. Mostly, it does it after is has been on all day, and when I decide to turn in from medium cool to low, which I do at night. It doesn't do it every night either, but it has really came to bug me. It has been going on off and on for about 2 weeks. Any ideas? If it's breaking, how long do I have? I'm hoping it won't die until it cools off anyway!

I recently bought a replacement motor for my furnace. I took it apart, got the replacements, slipped the motor back into the fan and realized that I put the attachment brackets on upside-down. Now the freekin motor won't come loose from the blade wheel!! I can't get at the metal screws without freeing the motor and pulling it apart from the wheel! What can I do? Is there a magnetic force holding this thing together? My only option seems to whack the motor free.
I'm baffled because I used absolutely no force when I put the motor back into the fan wheel and now its stuck as if I welded it in there.

Anyone??????

Thanks!

We want to make sure we seal in any of the remaining asbestos dust - but we'd also like it to be a water proofer so we can glue down hardwood floor a few weeks later. We're getting the masks, and we're putting plastic in the doorways and making sure we're safe while removing it - we just want to be prepared w/ the right kind of sealer and I'm not sure what kind to get. Brand names anyone?

I am in the process of buying a home. Since signing the contract(closing in two weeks) a problem with the Central A/C has developed. SEE BELOW. The homeowner(who I have a good relationship with) got an estimate/damage report as follows.

1) Mice got through some pipe.
2) Electrical Control Compressor chewed
3) Blew up capacitors and leaked
4) Three capacitors need to be replaced
5) The whole unit needs to be cleaned up
6) The leak needs to be cleaned up
7) There were shorts in the control panel

I apologize if anything here is off, I got this information from my wife who got it from the homeowner.
Also, it is a 5 TON/2 stage unit.

To repair $2,000.00
To repalace all $3,500.

The contractor says he can replace with a ONE STAGE?

THANKS AGAIN ALL!

we did the general construction of a restaurant and worked with the owners' electrical maintenance (as requested by the owner) who did the electrical. after complition, the owner added some audio, projectors, lazer lights and smoke machines, tapping them into existing circuit lines. the owner added another 1hp split type Aircondition in his make shift office. upon initial calculation of loads, the ampheres of each were now 114, 124, and 98 amp ratings. can you suggest on how do we balance the load without interfering with the operations of the restaurant? could i just add a spare load for the 98amps?

i'm not an electrician but i do understand some principles of electrical wirings. thanks

I am thinking about staining my kitchen cabinets a nice wood color. They currently have a couple layers of paint. I know this process is time consuming. I dont mind spending money on the equipment that will make my life easier. Can I use some type of sand blaster to easily remove the paint, then sand it down to get a smooth and even finish?

I work in Korea and am installing a drying machine at home. In Korea I have to use a transformer to convert 220v to 110v to use most of my American-made appliances.

The thing is, I'm not confident that everything is grounded - I feel a "hum" / vibration on the appliances (washer, microwave) when I touch them (the "hum" is not there when the transformer is off). I'm concerned that if I hook up a gas dryer that there is a possibility of "leaked" electricity to spark the supplied gas. I think that the water piping system (which I probably would've used for grounding) is mostly PVC.

1. Is the electrical "hum" something I should worry about?
2. What's the best way to ground my dryer and other appliances?

Thanks for your help.

I just moved into a brand new apartment (never been lived in before), with ventilated air conditioning. The thermostat seems to be working just fine, and semi-cold air comes out of the vents when I set it to "cool" but the thing is THE PLACE DOESN"T GET ANY COOLER!! If anything, it just gets hotter and hotter inside, slowly but surely. Like it's 95* outside, and the thermostat reads 75*, and I want it cooler, so I just leave the ac on all day and night. Guess what happens? 76*, 77*, 78*...and so on...
What in the blazes could the problem be? Could this just be an extremely cheap/weak air conditioning system that doesn't do crap or am I doing something wrong here?

I put a new thermostat and it was cooling fine for couple of months when the condenser would just stop running even when the furnace fan is still blowing. Is there some switch that can trigger the compressor to stop working? Any ideas would be appreciated.

**** FIRSTLY I LIVE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM******

Question for UK electricians please!!

I am asking this question as i would like the correct information
(i dont intend doing the work myself but would get a qualified person in under part P regulations for kitchen wiring)

Can a new ring circuit dedicated to the kitchen only have the wire run in properly constructed upvc "skirting board"
with surface mounted sockets running from this.

I ask this question because i feel less mess/disruption would be caused wiring up with the above method.

As we have quite a few kitchen appliances and they hide most of the skirting board anyway and surface mounted sockets would not show up also could this method of wiring be used in a safe and proper manor.

I have a whirlpool natural gas cooktop. When I turn the the knob to ignite one of the burners, the ignitor keeps clicking for about 20-30 seconds. Then I hear the gas start to flow and the burner lights.

To make sure the delay was caused by the gas not flowing (opposed to the ignitor not working) I held a match to the burner. The same result... 20-30 seconds before the gas starts to flow.

What could cause this delay in the gas flowing? What can I do to fix it?

I own my condo and while sitting at the computer today happened to look up and see WATER DAMAGE!

Nothing is dripping but it's below my shower... (downstairs) The paint is chipping and one big clump fell down revealing a dry light brown material and then a slightly damp dark brown material... there's also a 3 foot long small crack from the wall to the chandellier...

Who do I call? A plumber?

Am I responsible for water damage? (I own the condo but I suppose the condo association most likely only pays for the outside structure.)

Why would my shower be leaking? There's one big spot (where the paint chipped and fell off) and the crack us about 5 inches over with more spotting... they don't really match the pattern of my shower but are right below it.

This damage is brand new... I've lived here for 9 months and my condo was built in 1992.

Help!

My garage door use to open when I would push the button once. This was the case for both the button near my door to my garage and my remote when I would press it once the door would continue to open until fully opened. Now I have to hold down my button the whole time to get the door to open fully. If I let go of the button at all the door will stop working and the door will begin to slide back until closed. This happens when I use the hardwired button near my garage door and the remote. I have to hold down the button on the remote the whole time too in order for the door to open. What is wrong? Is it easy to fix?
