I'm trying to remove a broken 8 inch tire from my pressure washer and there is a pal-nut on the end, it's the kind that looks like a state troopers hat. I used a screwdriver and a hammer but it won't budge. Any ideas?
Thanks

They are tough to remove for sure! Two pairs of vice grips are needed. One to grip the pal-nut, and one to keep the axle from turning while you twist and pull (at the same time) on the pal-nut. It will take some effort but it will finally come off the end of the shaft. This way it can be reused for the next wheel.

Simple and fast. Take your side-grinder or Drehmel tool and cut a notch through the top, down to the axle. It will then come right off with a little pressure. Yes, this may damage the nut. I put mine back with 2-part epoxy with no problem. New ones for 5/8" shaft are less than a dollar. This takes about 5 minutes.

Using a small chisel and hammer, strike the base of the nut next to the (2) indentations that secure the nut to the shaft enough to force the tabs away from the shaft. You will still need vice grips or equivalent to move the nut back and forth to remove. Then have a beer.

I use a pair of vise grips. I work it back and forth while pulling out on it. Good luck
