I own my condo and while sitting at the computer today happened to look up and see WATER DAMAGE!

Nothing is dripping but it's below my shower... (downstairs) The paint is chipping and one big clump fell down revealing a dry light brown material and then a slightly damp dark brown material... there's also a 3 foot long small crack from the wall to the chandellier...

Who do I call? A plumber?

Am I responsible for water damage? (I own the condo but I suppose the condo association most likely only pays for the outside structure.)

Why would my shower be leaking? There's one big spot (where the paint chipped and fell off) and the crack us about 5 inches over with more spotting... they don't really match the pattern of my shower but are right below it.

This damage is brand new... I've lived here for 9 months and my condo was built in 1992.

Help!

Your shower pan is most likely leaking....Not good, but it can be fixed. You will probably need to replace the shower stall. Depending on what it's made of you may need a few different contractors.

I`ve read all the answerer's to your question and i agree with a] your probably responsible for the repairs b] you should have it repaired pretty soon.Leaks can come from a variety of places i.e. a shower arm, plumbing stems, your drain and associated hardware, and your shower/tub lining....usually a condo association has a handyman[s] that is skilled enough to handle this repair job and they are usually more than happy to assist you during their off hours. You`ll have to negotiate the fees.Throw in a couple of beers and a Chinese dinner and this repair might not take too much from your purse.I would get several estimates if the condos repair men do no want to handle this..A plumber will expedite the repair job but you will still have the sheet rock repairs to deal with not to mention the $ they will charge...

Don't panic. The leaking most likely from the shower pan or from the shower faucets(only when you open the faucets). When you remove the ceiling and will find out.Right now you only need to ask a plumber to check it out.If the leaking from the shower pan drainage U tube you better fix it as soon as possible because leak form that tube will lose the function of seal off the toxic gas from the sewer systems and will get in your house.

your shower is apparently leaking

the drain line could be leaking or the water line to the the showerhead could be leaking

you need to find the source of the leak before any repairs to the ceiling are done

Sounds like a plumbing problem with the shower. Your responsiblity and I would fix it fast. Once the leak is fixed, you can fix the ceiling.
