Just curious, is this a 4 cycle or 2 cycle engine? If it is a 2 cycle, did you add oil to the gas before you started mowing? If not, then you have probably messed up the engine, running it without oil.

Bummer.

Did you add any gas before running it? Was the oil level good? It's hard to tell by what you have told us. There are two types of engine on lawn equipment. One has separate oil/gas tanks and the other takes a gas/oil mix. How is this one set up?

thats a tough question, like the other guy said, did you add some gas, if so look at the gas can and see if the gas is really more red than normal, if so oooops.

That happened to mine - I think it's the piston ring. I retired it to the garage for later inspection and bought a new one.
