I recently bought a replacement motor for my furnace. I took it apart, got the replacements, slipped the motor back into the fan and realized that I put the attachment brackets on upside-down. Now the freekin motor won't come loose from the blade wheel!! I can't get at the metal screws without freeing the motor and pulling it apart from the wheel! What can I do? Is there a magnetic force holding this thing together? My only option seems to whack the motor free.
I'm baffled because I used absolutely no force when I put the motor back into the fan wheel and now its stuck as if I welded it in there.

Anyone??????

Thanks!

find a metal tube that is just big enough that it will barely slip over the motor shaft that is sticking through the blower wheel...hit this with a hammer and see if you cant knock the blower a little further down on the motor shaft...after you have done that spray some penetarting oil on it and then using an adjustable wrench work the motor shaft in circles until it will spin inside the blower wheel....then with the motor facing down jerk the blower housing up hard and see if it will pull off....try to get the flat part of the shaft underneath where the hex bolt that would hold the blower wheel to the motor shaft directly in line...do not hit the motor shaft with a hammer if you do it will swell the shaft and make it impossible to get off without grinding the end of the shaft down....you can use a piece of wood and a hammer to drive it through the blower wheel if all else fails...a 3/8 dowel rod will do the job nicely..

You'll need to borrow or rent a wheel puller. Try your local auto store. To buy one would be about the same cost as buying a new motor and fan.

Oh, yes, be sure the tightening bolt (square bolt or hex screw) is loose.
