Hi there,
I live on the Northern Beaches in Sydney and my water supplied by Sydney Water as well.
So far my water looks fine and doesn't smell. I saw on the news some people in the Blue Mountains started to have problems with the smell of there water.
I am thinking it may not be the water supply but your hot water heater is on it's way out. There is am easy way to find out. First you need to test if it's your hot and cold water. Go to your bathroom and run a few litres of hot water into your plugged bath tub and see if its brown then do the same thing with your cold water.
If it's only the hot water you need to take a look at your hot water tank. If you can see any rust around the bottom of the take you have to get a new one soon. Once you see rust around the bottom of the tank it's only a matter of time before your tank will blows.
This happened to my hot water heater about six months ago, I kept putting it off then I came home after being out all day to see water flooding out of my garage. I was lucky that the water didn't ruin anything but it was a terrible waist of water.

They should have an emergency number that you can call. Look in the phone book. If the water is that brown, then it is the same water that you are drinking. Call them and have them come out and test it.
You may want to get a whole house filter system installed. That way you will be drinking clean water. good luck

that brown water water that comes out of the shower should
also be coming out of the other faucets in your house.check
them also,if so a quick fix is to turn a couple of faucets on
and let the water run until it is clear, what this does is flushes
the water tank out,it may take a while to do.if this doesn't
work then you have to turn the power off to the water tank leave a faucet on then shut off the h2o supply and drain
the tank. in theUS brown water comes when the water
company flushes the fire hydrants.if all the above fails
call a plumber.

If you have a well it could be the pump is pumping mud which means you are out of water;
Other than that it could be really rusty pipes or rust in the water itself.

It probably just rust (orange colored), let it run until it clears up. They may of had to do some work on a pipe or something. It shouldn't take but a few minutes to clear up.

Sounds like rusty pipes. It may be your water heater but just to be sure, If you are close to neighbors, ask them if they are having the same problem. Good luck.

Sounds like some work has been done on the pipeline somewhere and disturbed the rust. Let it run awhile and it should clear up.
