My Garage door will open using the clicker and wall mount but will not close with the clicker, it activates, starts to shut then comes back to the open position again. The only way to close it is to hold the button on the wall until the door is shut. I pulled the covers off on each end thinkin it was a lose wire or something but everything seems in order. Any ideas?

I'm selling my home and doing repairs, and the globe for an older ceiling fan was taken down and got broken.

I thought I'd run down to Lowe's and get a new one, only to find out they don't sell just the large single globes anymore.
I couldn't find one in town, and was told you have to buy the whole lighting kit, so I did.

The metal rod coming down from the ceiling fan that goes thru the hole in the globe was too short to come thru the other side. Seems these new globes are deeper than the older ones.

A guy there said to buy an adaptor, get a variety pack of extension rods (just like on the fan) and washers.

Yippee....I thought. The globe went on, the metal rod was now long enough to come thru the globe to then go thru the globe decorative metal part, and enouch left to screw the knob on. The globe looked a tad crooked, but felt secure.

We turned the fan on and heard a crack. Then another. Two cracks in the globe from the center out, 2-3 inches each.
What went wrong?

So, this is kind of personal, but my upstairs neighbor is complaining about my squeeky bed... how do I quiet it?
It is a wood frame with metal to wood joints, a mass production bed, much like you would find at Art Van.
Since stopping the activities that produce the noise are not an option, what can I do to the bed to reduce the noise that IT makes?

Thanks for your help!

I drained the old oil, added 1 qt plus about 10 oz, (wanted to leave it low on purpose) and ran this motor for about 10-15 min. Never stalled, but did smoke, just not as bad. Got brave and ran a portion of the yard with blades engaged, smoke finally quit and motor never stalled once. Did changing oil cure the problem, or am I just foolin myself?

I have a outdoors plumbing question. I moved my spigot and it basically fell right out of the junction (? - I don't know what it is called) that is permantly attached to the house plumbing. The spigot has 1/2" male NPT, but is just a *tad* smaller than the junction's threading. I am not sure how someone got it to stay in the first place. The threads in the junction seem to be fine and is defintly not 3/4" NPT, the 1/2" male just isn't that loose in the junction, but does slide right into the female.

It looks like someone loaded the male end with teflon tape and got the spigot to stay into the junction somehow.

My question is this: What is the solution here? As I see it, I have 2 possibilities. One is to totally block off this junction, but with what and what NPT size? The second is to get the right threaded spigot, but again, what size?

The junction in question has no external threads

Boiler changed to combi.
Old system had a branch from the outflow through a coil in the tank.
Plumber just linked this to the inflow when he removed the tank.
To me this seems like a short curcuit, a low resistance short way for much of the hot water to go straight back to the boiler.
I said to the plumber wouldnt it be better just to block these (forcing all the water to go round the rads)
He said 'no then ur only return is through the rads, I like to keep things moving a bit!'???
Does his theory make sense?
The rads are still getting warm but I cant believe that in parrallel short curcuit is helping??

im guessing something is clogged. what can i buy to fix this? an auger wont work because the way the sink is, you cant put anything non-liquid down there. it goes down very very slow. toilet water rises after flushing but wont go down all the way. its like something is holding it back from going down.

Ive recently bought a house and the central heating was working fine. I had a new kitchen fitted and turned the water off the plumber. It was leaking so I opened all the hot taps to get rid of the water.

Since turning the water back on my central heating comes on and the radiators go luke warm, then the boiler goes off. It kicks back in sporadically but doesnt heat the radiators very well.

I've tried all the stuff in the manual and the boiler is fine. Ive also set my thermo to max but nothing. Ive now been advised to drain all my radiators (in case there is trapped air).

Will this correct the problem, and if not, can anybody diagnose the problem?

Do you think the Cholesterol is what clogged the drain? Is there someway I could get it out without calling a plummer? Thanks

I have an old system in my house, seperate hot water and central heating. Luckily my hot water is still working, but last week the pilot light went out so I have no central heating. We have tried re-lighting it, but it only stays on for a short time before going off again. We have cleaned out all the dust, but its still not working. Any advice?

The ice maker still does not work. The refrigerator a n freezer work fine. I just do not have the ice maker working now on the refrigerator. Does anyone know where on the net i can purchase something like this? It is to join two pipes together inside my attic. One is to an outside vent and the other is to what i think might be my drainage pipes??? On one end it fits over the outside pipe, but on the other end fits inside. This end has rubber seals on it and is shapes like a spout. The name i have given might be wrong, i am not sure. I also think it might be something called a flexible elbow joint? I need answers, please help?

Thanks to all who participate.....

We have bad windows in our apartment and it gets way too cold in here. Does anyone have any idea's on how to keep the cold out? Our windows are paper thin and rattle in the wind. You can feel the breeze of cold air coming in through the cracks from the sliding part of the window. I am looking for a way to somewhat temporarily seal the parts that flow air and insulate the window. My dad told me to make a frame and put special plastic on the frame to put in the window as insulation but my landlord told me i couldn't do that. I did tape the insulation in place the same way i would have with a frame and the manager didn't seem to mind that but that only lasted about two days because of all the moisture that came in. At this point i am willing to take any suggestions, it drops to 40 degrees in the apartment on a cold day during the winter so i want to get a head start now. Has anyone else had this problem? how did you solve it?
