My Garage door will open using the clicker and wall mount but will not close with the clicker, it activates, starts to shut then comes back to the open position again. The only way to close it is to hold the button on the wall until the door is shut. I pulled the covers off on each end thinkin it was a lose wire or something but everything seems in order. Any ideas?

Check that the photo-electric eyes are aligned. One should have a solid green light if things are ok...if not it should be a red light or no light at all. Next thing check would be the track that the rollers run in...be sure that it hasn't been hit and bent. These are pretty common things that happen and are easy enough to fix with just a little rebending of some brackets. The last thing to look at is the garage door motor itself. On the back is an adjustment screw for the closing limit and closing force. Start with the closing force and move it just a little bit at a time. Moving the screw to much will increase the force and drive the door into the ground and bend/break all kinds of good stuff.

U have a photocell issue. The cells are located near the base of of your vertical tracks, usually 2-6" above the floor. Mis-alignment is by far the most common cause of this malady, generally by being bumped by errant basketballs, skateboards & so on. Visually inspect the devices to see that they are not damaged & the wires are intact. Next, aim them at each other. Now, one cell is a transmitter, the other a reciever. Some manufacturers incorporate LED's into thier transmitters, usually green or yellow. These indicate power to the units. On the reciever will be a red LED. This one will only illuminate when the two are alligned. If you are still having problems, you probably have a bad connection, or possibly a frayed wire between the cells & the power-head(motor). In any case, most manufacturers have thier own web sites with tech support. If worse comes to worse, call THE GUY.

ok what brand of opener do you have? Anything by chamberlain, if it is the eyes when the door goes to up position the lights on motor will flash. If lights out you will here it click. There are usually two lights on your eyes. Old chamberlain products have two green eyes. One is receiving one is transmitting. You should have one solid at all times. If the other is flashing adjust. Even a little flicker in it will cause it. Newer chamberlain will have a green eye and a yellow eye. Green is receiving yellow is transmitting. Anytime the door goes up remote and wall button, but will not go down by remote, and you have to hold down wall button it is a problem with the eyes.

this would either be your sensor that checks to see if something is in the way, or a force sensor. check out the wires to your sensors if they seem okay, then look for a small knob on the opener that adjusts the force allowed. this is in place in case something is under the door that the infared sensor does not see. when the door would hit it it would stop and back up so it wont get crushed. just set it a bit higher so it will overcome the force to get the door down.

We had exacty the same problem. Called in the professional rather than troubleshoot - wiring was fine but one of the sensor was no longer working properly. Took only 5 mins to replace the defective sensor (cost $50 for the whole thing).

It sounds like you need a new set of eyes for your garage door opener. They are not real expensive, about $35 for the pair.

It sounds like something is blocking the sensor. Not completely, just slightly.

You need new batteries, or the clicker is wearing out.
