I'm painting my garage door with two coats of Sherwin-Williams satin exterior latex. The can doesn't say if I should sand after the first coat.

Can't sand latex.

You should have painted it with oil based paint. Takes more abuse. You'll learn.

Hi, you should sand before the first coat of paint to remove the shine so that the new paint would stick and also a light sanding between coats to get a smooth finish, the sand paper i recommend is # 120 . Have fun.

No need to sand. Just make sure you prime the surface before you apply the first coat.
