Setting in a box for 2 years may have allowed the pump seals to dry out or the unit may have been damaged in shipping. Any appliance repair shop will have a replacement pump that you can install yourself. They will need the manufacturer and model number to get you the right part.

Just out of curiosity.... did you connect the dishwasher drain to a garbage disposal? And if you did... did you remember to remove the knockout plug on the disposal? It's surprising how many people forget that silly little plug.
Other than that, I'd have to guess that it might be the pump. If it sounds like it is trying to pump the water out, then I'd be looking for a blockage.

What brand? Also did it wash the dishes ok? Is the drain hooked up properly?
Don't take this the wrong way, but I have seen a lot of dishwasher installs where people connect the drain hose to a pipe on their garbage disposer, and forget to knock out the plug on the disposer so the water can flow through.

Yikes 2 years old? More then likely the department store to which you made the purchase will not accept the washer back for an exchange or refund. I'd call the manufacturer or call a tech.

sounds like your pump has broken ,
note the serial # on the back ,and call around for a new pump
but buying a new , would be cheaper .
