I heard that there's a product you brush on any oudoor metal ornaments (like outdoor lamps, sconces, or hanging plaques made for outdoors, but rust anyway) to keep them from rusting. You brush the product on the item, let it dry, and it will not rust even if exposed to water. I just have no idea what the product name would be, or where to find it. :( help...

I have a sprinkler system that won't turn on, and it appears to be for either electrical reasons or due to some glitch with the computer that controls when cycles start.

I turned all of the water on and verified that it's getting to the sprinklers. I'm pretty sure that the water went into the underground lines too, as when I flipped each controller into the ON position I heard a gust of water and air.

The trouble now is that when I program the cycles and set it to auto (or manually turn it on), there's a message on the computer that says "Off Power". The computer itself is powered, so I'm wondering if for some reason the power isn't getting to the controllers?

Sorry if I'm not using the right technical terms. By controllers I'm referring to three nobs that are underground which have wires going into them. I'm just guessing that these wires connect to the computer. Should I disconnect or clean them or something like that? Could they be shorting? I'm at a total loss.

I am replacing my roof with an asphalt shingle roof. I read on the internet in a few places that lighter colored shingles last longer as they deflect heat better. I also read it's more relevant in the south then the north, since it's hot more often.

I live in the northeast, and was just wondering if this was true, AND how much difference does it make?
I mean, are we talking about extending the roof life a month or years?

Personally I like darker colored roofs style wise better, but if it made a huge difference it seems silly to choose to lower the life of the roof for just the color.

Thanks!

I moved in a new house that has the Dyer hook ups in the garage. there is no vent, and no way to vent to outside except brick walls. I bought a collection bucket, but it really heats the garage. Do I have any other alternatives? Also can not vent up becasue it is a 2 story home.

There's dust over everything and big sheets of plastic balled up in the driveway. Aren't they meant to take care of that themselves?

Someone gave me a NON-gasoline, manual push mower. Can it be sharpened? It seems the angle of the sharpened edge is flat or 90 deg. to the blade. Is this the correct bevel?

In January, a NICEIC electrician installed inset halogen lights in my house. I asked them to install fire rated ones with caps but they insisted that I don't need them and installed normal ones.
Are they really safe? Is it legal for them to install non-fire rated ones?

I have a small hand dolly, made in China, with rubber wheels that smell unbelievably bad. My 2 small kids' bikes also smell. I recently bought a small desk, with rubber drawer inserts, all Chinese, and the rubber inserts stink! What gives?

Why is it so hard to find trouble free trades men in the UK? I have to watch their every move in order to get things done correctly. They are not aware of building regulations and overlook things.
Maybe, TESCO or B&Q can train truely skillful tradesmen and sell their services at very reasonable prices..

I have been asked to quote for a job in France identical to some I done in England. However I am not sure what the differences are between french and english installations if any and whether it has to be signed off by a spark with french qualifications as a similar one in Ireland has to be.

2 amp or 6 amp, I know if you charge it at too high of a setting it is bad for the battery. The mower is pretty old and the battery is dead, thx.

My water heater started leaking again for the 2nd time in 2 months in my apartment. If they don't fix it right this time around i'm pretty nervous about staying there as i've heard leaky heaters can be dangerous to live with. What do you suggest I do? I love the apartment complex, i've lived there for a year and a half now, and I just moved into the apartment i'm in a few months ago, and don't really want to pack up again unless that is a last resort. Any advice? Thanks!!

I can fit 3 board all the way across. I seems like a hassle to have to saw the boards. Is it a real beg deal to staggard the boards? It's a old garage it doesn't have to be perfect.
