I'm replacing all the plywood on the roof then I'm going to reshingle. Someone told me that I should staggard the boards. Right now they fit perfect all the way across. I can fit 3 board all the way across. I seems like a hassle to have to saw the boards. Is it a real beg deal to staggard the boards? It's a old garage it doesn't have to be perfect.

No you never have to even on a house. Just space them properly, you can get the spacers too. Boards change size depending on the weather.

It would seem that you wouldn't want all the joints to line up. Wouldn't that weaken the roof and it you have a bog snow fall and a low pitched roof. Look at it this way you only need to cut one to get the stagger per row of plywood. The cut off piece will fit on the other end of the row. Then it would only be every other row.

Either way, it's your garage, so you can do what you want, good luck with it.
