I have a small hand dolly, made in China, with rubber wheels that smell unbelievably bad. My 2 small kids' bikes also smell. I recently bought a small desk, with rubber drawer inserts, all Chinese, and the rubber inserts stink! What gives?

I try VERY hard to buy items made in the US (or at least from democratically (!) controlled friendly nations) but it ain't easy.

They use recycled male prophylactics - nothing is wasted in China . Or maybe it's counterfeit rubber? They're great at counterfeiting! Or, and this is a long shot, maybe they make rubber products out of old, dirty U.S. currency. They have a surplus of U.S. bucks, from the dumping agreement between our two countries. They dump their cheap crap in our country, and we dump our jobs and money in theirs.......................

You got that right. I haven't bought anything made in China that has lasted more than two or three uses. I would just as soon save up for a couple of weeks and buy B&D or DeWalt. At least you know the thing will work a year from now. They are probably making that rubber from some putrid ingredients. Like manure or rotting flesh. Or they aren't very adept at taking the sulphur smell out. If you knew how they made it you would probably throw the stuff in the nearest dumpster.

CHina has no quality control. China has no requirements at all. They can and do put anything into anything. They still use asbestos. Look at the additive to the gluten from China killing our pets.

America has minimum standards for just about anything manufactured here, but they don't.

Folks think they are getting a good deal because the crap from China is a dollar or two cheaper.

You get what you pay for. Look for Made in USA.
