i am having trouble finding an ignition coil for my ((1998) 13.5 hp tecumseh ride on mower engine. ive searched all of the numbers printed on the coil. any suggestions as to where i should do/ where i should look next?

i just noticed that i wrote carb. in the question title. i did mean ignition coil.

You'll need the motor numbers, not the coil numbers.
Check at : http://jackssmallengines.com/ .
The motor numbers are located somewhere either on the flywheel shroud or a tag on the actual block.

Go to outdoordistributors.com. Type in you engine model number. It will give you a blow up view of the engine and all the part numbers, both theirs and tecumsehs.
