I need to put a "p-trap" in our washing machine drainage line.I was wondering if it mattered where i put it?? Does it have to be right near the washing machine drain pipe where it enters our basement or can i put the trap on down farther in the middle of the drain pipe before it meets the main sewer drain in the basement?

The reason i'm asking is that it looks like it would be easier for me to put it right in the center of the pipe where theres room to work instead of putting it right where the washing machine drain pipe enters the basement. Can i put it anywhere? Thanks.

put it anywhere, but use a union trap , not a glue trap so you can take it apart if you ever have to

Hey Bud,
There are some real issues you need to look at before installing this washer box. Dont get too worried about the looks of the trap, its hidden by the washer.
The most important thing is the vent for the trap. First thing is where are you tieing in to your drain? If it could be a 3" line that would be the best.
Keep in mind that a washer put out alot of water real quick and can cause the trap to loose the seal my vacuuming itself out.
Put the trap under the box, Branch from the line your connecting to and then vent that branch.
If you can,,,,, write some more. I would like to help.
Good Luck

You can put it anywhere but you also may want to put in a cleanout section fitting by the washer drain in case you need to clean out or snake the pipe from the washer to the trap. Any standing water in the pipe before the trap may load up with soap film or lint so make sure it's got a good slope to it.

Put it where its not unsightly and is easiest to access. The trap will stop gas and smells from entering your home.
