I just moved in to my apartment. the only thing that's red in my living room is my couch. The carpet is light brown and the walls are antique white. Any other decorating ideas are welcome.

the floor is a floating wood floor, with beading holding it down at the skirting board. i want to fit a hard wearing carpet over it to reduce the wear and tear my tenants could cause to the wood. then i will still have a good wood floor if i remove the capet in a few years when i came to sell the flat. could i remove the beading, lay the carpet and use thicker beading to hold it down again at the skirting board?

I would love to be able to change the interior of my home to be more homey, and fall like. I don't want to spend a bunch of money though. Any ideas on how to change into fall without breaking the bank.

I really like a living room set they have, but it is not worth 1k. It has 2 cigarette holes that I think I can repair.. but I just really don't want to pay 1k for it (in cash, no "renting to own").

I have a bland LR that I want to spruce up.

I plan to paint the walls Andiron (from Sherwin Williams - its a deep greenish -gray color). I have a dark brown (think espresso) TV armoire and bookshelf in the Living Room. Not much else in the way of decoration. I'm just getting started.

What color curtains should I choose?

OH - My furniture is BLACK! But I actually plan to get rid of the black furniture soon (or maybe just get some beige or taupe slip covers).

Please help!

We have just purchased an 11 year old house and will be doing the following upgrades: install hardwood floors, complete repaint of the house, new capet, 5 major new apliances, new deck, removing walls and upgrade of stairs, new windows and have heard and have had dealings with Direct Buy. If you have dealt with Direct Buy how was your experience and would you recommend Direct Buy. We will not be doing the upgrade work ourselves it will be done by contractors.

I HATE carpet and I rent a home where I can't make any large improvements (ie- ripping up the carpet) so I want to put in "floating" hardwood laminate down over 100% of the carpet- meaning I'm not going to anchor it to anything. Can this be done? I can't afford to hire a professional, and I already have the "tongue and groove" wood laminate.

Should I use glue?? What do I do about the wood covering some of the base board?

Thanks!

I'm looking for very modern furniture, but most furniture stores offer the same old fashioned look. I know there are a few stores which offer a modern & contemporary look, but overall I think Americans prefer a different look than Europeans for example. The furniture stores in Europe are all so beautiful and you go wild, but here it's almost painful to select furniture.
I usually buy then over the internet, but it costs me a lot of money.
Why is it that even young Americans prefer to buy that old fashioned "oak-style" look??? Anybody from the furniture industry here on YA who wants to explain why stuff looks always so old-fashioned?

Many sites are showing 12" tiles on the floor as well as inside the tub. My house is a bungalow built in the early 60s. I like antiques and more traditional, not the 60s revival-type furnishings that I am seeing; however, I may sell the home and want it to not become outdated. Should I go with a smaller tile around the tub/shower to match the floor and do floor in 12"?

I'd like to add a second kitchen to the lower level of a house to be used as a guest suite and for entertainment purposes. Is there anything I should do to ensure I'm not decreasing the value of the house?
