You can do that. The website is http://www.designerathome.com/. You pick a room you want to decorate; answer a short online questionnaire about the room's purpose and your preferences; and send in room measurements, photos and $250. Two weeks later, you get a design scheme, like paint-by-numbers for your room. You take the job from there.

Choose two basic colors to use throughout then accent different rooms with different colors. For example, your living room might be brown and green. Accent with orange. your kitchen might be green and beige, accent with brown.
Choose plain carpeting and window treatments and add your accents on inexpensive things that can easily be changed like pillows, throws, candles, mirrors, pictures.
Sometimes it's easier to start with one basic thing that you really love, no matter what it is and go from there. Maybe you have a blue vase that you love for your bedroom. Buy a comforter with a little of that color. Add pillows, blankets, candles, etc. Start with basics and layer. Keep most walls the same shade or close to the same shade, and add an accent wall here and there, either an entirely different color of a darker shade of your original.
On my first house I used a decorator, but now that I'm on my 5th I do it myself slowly and like it better.
Keep boxes filled with accessories for different seasons in an attic or garage. When the season changes, change your colors a little by adding different colored flowers, wreaths, vases, candles, knick-knacks and pictures.
Buy what you love, without worrying so much if it "matches". Usually things you love will look good together. Just rearrange and experiment. Have fun and take your time.
Hope this helps.

This is what I did..I went furntiure window shopping, when I found the sofa that i liked, I took the colors of the pillows and rug and matched my accents to that.. even tho I bought everything from a discount store...including my sofa when I finished the room looked as if it was planned that way..
