Decorating & Remodeling - October 2007

I was thinking of putting carpet in my bedroom but my mom says it will cause problems when i use Air conditioner and other sort of problem. So does these of problem happen with carpets or its just my mom? thanks

When a house is being built with bricks & mortar, is the mortar only partially used to join the bricks in those sections that aren't visible from the outside?

It is apparent from the outer appearance that the mortar is used in complete style, ie totally in between each brick - above & between. However I'm told that the reality is that that is merely the 'outer' appearence. Is that the case...?

Like the band incubus house on cribs, they had a place that just had candles and stuff and had a really chill atmosphere. I would like to achieve that in my dorm: walls are Lt blue...just need a tranquil room for chilling to calm the mind.

Is there anyway i could dullen them or use a farbic around them to make them look good and dullen them? Could someone reccoemnd a flame resistent fabric that looks like silk that would be great for this purpose? Please help!

Hey, i am looking for new coulgine, i have had addiads adreneline (in the glass bottle) for a few years and its worked good. But a couple of my friends bought the same kind and im looking for somthing new/differant. I am only 14 and dont have all that much money at the moment. My parents will probally split the cost. But christmas is comming up and im goign to mexico. So I guess i havbe to questions. What kind and woudl it be cheaper to buy myslef in mexico rather than home.

Just wondering cuz wehen you go to the Depot, there stores are clena but their personnel is unattentive.

Then when you go to Lowes the stores arent as "pretty" but I seem to think they are more professionally knowledgable than Depot.

My leather sofa seats, the area where you sit, the cushioning has got soft and I was wondering if anyone knows a way to either replace the cushioning inside of them or to be able to tighten the cushion, so they are firm again? My roomate has three completely heinous couches, a hunter green suede one, an air-force blue one, and a beige one. Since she loves them so much, I'm forced to live with them. I'm having trouble deciding how to go about decorating our living room because I really don't know how to pull them together.
Does anyone have any ideas on colors to use for window treatments, wall decour, etc....

I am in the process of purchasing my first home (excited!). it's a really old place but in rather good condition. it has yellowy coloured cladding on the outside. inside the walls are white and marked so the first thing i want to do is paint the interior. I want 2 different colours, one for the walls and roof and one for the trims and window frames. It's a very small house so want to stick to the lighter colours to make it look bigger. Does anyone have any good ideas for colouring or sites? my parents use a really white/peachy colour on their walls with grey trims. i'm thinking similar but more grey/blue trims. i want my own theme and it will be throughout the whole place. my furniture is mainly brown - light brown tv stand and cupboard with dark brown wooden sofa with green/brown cushions. the carpet is red but i'd like to put new carpet in one day. what colours do you think would be nice? i'd like more calmer and softer colours compared to dark vibrant colours . thanks in advance :)

Approximately how much would it cost to add a small apartment to my house. I have a brick home and I want to enclose my carport to make a small apartment for my Mom she wants one room for dining and a small den. A small kitchen and a small bathroom. I may have to extend the carport some. Any guess would be appreciated. My house was built in 1968 and the roof is approx 8 years old.
