I would say ask him/her if you could put up curtain rods. usually landlords don't want holes for pictures and posters and stuff on the walls, but don't mind curtain rods. If he/she says no, then tape up really irritating posters on the insides of your windows facing out. If he/she says anything, say it was the only way to cover them up without putting up curtain rods or blinds...

Drill anyway. Patch the holes with toothpaste (or better) and paint over them when you move. As long as you leave the premises in good condition, you have the right to peaceful enjoyment. I'm fairly certain curtains to maintain adequate privacy would be found by a reasonable judge to be a reasonable use of the premises. And the worst they could do is sue you and even if they won, how much could it be to patch a few holes?
Put your curtains up, if the landlord asks, you swear it is an adhesive. (I don't normally lie, but landlords are special.)
If you get good screws, then you could just use an electric screw driver to bore the hole with the screw and then, technically, you would not have drilled a hole.

They make spring loaded curtain rods like the shower curtain rods that will fit inside the window....however I would check with the landlord about putting up curtain rods, offer to patch the holes when you move or leave the curtain rods up for the next renter...

yes, I am with rainbow and the others also. Drill the holes for the rods and patch and paint before you vacate. But the tension rods do work nicely..

There are spring loaded curtain rods that can be adjusted to fit inside the frame of almost any size window.

try using tacks, the holes they make are so small that the landlords won't even notice after you move out. Thats what I had to do, and it works fine as long as you don't have little kids to tug on them. Good luck!

if its an inside mount, use a tension rod, if not ask the landlord what you should do. If he sees the problem, perhaps he will come up with an acceptable idea.

They make hooks which will stick to almost anything also with tabs on the bottom to release them. Try to keep to a very light in weight material.
