I think either a pale green or pale blue would both look stunning with the browns of the furniture, and the red carpet.
They are both pale colors and cool colors, which will help to open up your space.
Try adding small accents, in cushions or accessories, of red or a deep vibrant turquoise to set the colors off, and to keep a warm, homely feel to your room.
I think that white, or cream/stone/off-white, would be an excellent choice for window frames and trims. You wouldn't want to start adding too many different colors into a small space, or it will start to look cluttered - try to keep your decorating streamlined.
Keep your ceilings in bright white, to help the rooms seem open and airy.
You would be able to use different tones of greens, aquas and blues throughout the whole house, perhaps with some pale neutrals as well, to bring the whole look together.
Wishing you good luck with your decorating and lots of fun in your new home.

I would say that if you want the home to look bigger, don't paint your trim anything but a bright white or a bright off white. If you do anything else its going to shrink it in. You could always do a really light toupe color (light brown) or a beige. I would reccomend peach...(not a personal favorite) Have fun with your new house. If you go to a home improvement store they will have swatches that give you reccomendations on grouping colors. Good luck. Congrats on your first home!

I would not recommend brown furniture with gray-blue painted trim- maybe more warm beige, or ivory. Get washable paint, and it will brighten up the whole place!
If the red carpet doesn't go with one of your ideas, get an area rug.
Great colors with brown/green:
rose
peach
banana yellow
pale gold
mint green
leaf green
aqua
sky blue
caramel
Repeat the wall and furniture colors in each room, in small accessories.

Check out Dulux's "Mango Melody" for your wall color:
http://www.dulux.co.uk/servlet/ColourSchemeHandler?name=mango_melody_4
It's a fantastic, bright shades that's also welcoming & inviting.
Since you're considering a blue/gray trim, then I'd recommend "Holiday Blues 5" with the Mango. It would be a really interesting & attractive contrast:

On the Sherwin Williams website they have a picture of a room and you can change the color schemes to see what they will look like. I really got a lot of good ideas from this.

I think brown goes very well with olive green or turquoise. My bedroom is a combination of turquoise and brown while my mom’s kitchen is combination of olive green and brown. If you choose olive green and brown, why don’t try orange yellowish for drapes and other soft furnishings…I’m sure it would look great…enjoy decorating!!
