i need to update my kitchen and bath. i've never dealt with a general contractor before. so i was wondering....do contractor's usually get discounts for supplies they buy at a place like home depot. if so, do they pass on the discount to their customers.? or do they turn around and charge the client the retail price and make a profit on the supplies?

when we painted the walls in our house the paint bubbled off the wall. i waited for them to dry and they would eventually go down. in the areas that bubbled the paint peels easily. ok if i want to repaint do i strip the walls first? my mom said that there was wall paper that the previous owners didnt get off and thats why it did that, but i think the walls may have too much old paint on them, im not a profecional so i dont know. what do you think we should do when we paint strip the walls if so what to buy, or just paint? thanks!

I have wood now, but I think I'd rather go back to linoleum. It was easier to care for and took up less of my time.

Our couch frame has an ugly orangish varnish on it and we want to make it look more like walnut or something dark but don't want to go through the trouble of sanding. Is it possible to just stain over the varnish. It's not too glossy or anything. We're just looking for shortcuts.

I live in southern california and I am going to have 18x18 or 20x20 travertine stone flooring (in a brickwork aka offset pattern) throughout my house (living room, kitchen, dinning room, entryway, hallways and bathrooms) on a concrete slab foundation. Its roughly 1200 sq. ft. I would like to know what percentage of waste I should factory in when calculating total needed sq. ft. ? and also what is the thinnest grout line possible in that size tile, is 1/16 of an inch ok? or if anyone who has worked with said material can relay their experience in working with the material or considerations that can easily be overlooked?

I am putting in a small 12'x60' mobile home on the new property I just bought, to use as an office for my farm. Would I need to put a cement pad in for the home to sit on? Would it need to be the complete size of the mobile home i.e 12x60 or could I use smaller pads just where the wheels are going to sit?

My uncle mistakenly got the Kilz oil based primer, and they used it on their water based walls (bedroom). The room was painted about 10 years ago.. anywho, they primed it about 2 weeks ago, and it doesn't seem to be peeling or anything. Is it ok to now use water based paint on top of the oil based primer? The oil primer literally fills the house with an awful, nauseating stench.

I'm a 14 y/o girl... the colour it is right now is a gross blue-purple-gray-GROSS colour.
What do you think is a nice colour to paint it? I don't want pink. It will be a kind of calm, exotic themed, (hopefully)
