That is small! Get a book on carpentry and get busy. A lot of the lumber yards will cut the wood to the sizes you need so you don't have to use a saw.

You can create a bench with storage underneath that is the length of a bed and have it against the wall - top it with a futon. This will double as a couch when you have your friends over and you can use the area underneath for storage.

On the end wall, add a desk so you can have a place for your laptop or computer and a place to do homework. On the wall opposite your bed, add shelves on wall. Allow them to be adjustable if you can so you can add storage to the bottom shelves - like wooden/plastic boxes that you can slide out. Also, make sure you add plenty of shelving to your closet to take the place of your dresser.

Be sure to make the wall shelves big enough to hold your stereo equipment, etc. Mirror tiles can add depth and give you a window affect - especially if used behind the wall shelves with a little lighting.

Keep the colors light as dark colors will decrease the size of the room even more - making it look more like a cave than a bedroom.

Best wishes to you.

1] go thru all belongings - clothes, toys, books, miscellaneous - even under bed.
2] make piles - donate all clothing too big, too ugly, or too small, as well as unwanted toys and books
3] buy underbed storage bins for overflow out of season, save for future, etc
4] buy shelf dividers for closet - left to right: winter hats, scarves, gloves, mittens; then stack of sweaters; then all purses, shelved like books; then summer hats, totes, etc.
5] buy one or two shoe racks for closet - do winter to summer shoes, left to right; with dressy shoes in back to everyday shoes in front.
6] if space left, put more storage bins in here [ or boxes of school supplies, if you have no desk ]
7] Clear all floor space, and make a graph map for most floor space available in different furniture arrangements.

So, you have about 10 feet by 5 feet for floor space, and friends!
Get over the mad stuff - only hurts you in long run.Your Mom probably isn't happy with a smaller home either.
You have your OWN ROOM. and it's bigger than the one my husband and I each had growing up - he shared his with three brothers!

try putting glass mirror tiles on one side of the room, makes the room look twice its size.

light colored walls make it look more expansive because the dimensions of your room are less recognized by the eye.
