I have one - a Tempurpedic, and I love it. I have a history of herniated discs and sciatica, and this is the only mattress where I can sleep flat on my back and still end up with no pain. It doesn't hold your body heat very much - I don't notice much difference from my old mattress. It's a bit odd to get used to, as it is very firm at first and slowly gets slightly softer. So you feel yourself sinking into it at first. Also, when it comes out of the wrapper, there is a smell to the foam that some people find objectionable. If you are chemically sensitive, you may wish to avoid it. I found it was completely gone within the week.

Quick story I was in a car accident and suffer from chronic
pain. I bought a $1200 memory foam air chamber bed.
So you can adjust comfort level... due to weather and work
I need different levels of comfort from time to time. The bed
is worth every bit of money the memory foam layer gives support without making pressure points. I could not sleep
without it. But before accident I'm not sure I would have spent
the money a 400-$500 mattress was pretty good.
But your suppose to replace those every 4-5 years.
These memory foam beds say 20+ I've had my only 7 and so
far so good just get a good mattress cover to protect.

My mother in law got one, then still ordered a specially made extra thickness mattress from Leeds. She said it wasn't soft enough - but now she has the problem that she doesn't sleep if she's away from home as nothing is as good as her mattress.

Yeah, but they can be hot. Some people sweat more resulting in a "wet" feel underneath. It may take extra mattress pads if you tend to be "hot body."
