I have totally tan wall color (from sherwin williams paint) and white trim. My furniture is mostly burgundy and black. Is it best that the window treatment be close to the same color as the wall or should it be with the white trim?

I have hardwood floors and it is a contemporary room.

I am a uniformed worker and want a really good shine. Do you put on the polish and then buff with the cloth and then brush, or do you put on the polish, brush and then use the cloth. Any suggestions. The shinier the better!

I've just purchased some dark brown couches, and am concerned that they may eventually fade. I love to have the windows open in my home and for my next purchase may consider a lighter color.

I want to redesign my home office -- install built in cabinets, bookcases, widen counter space, allow for more computers, etc. Right now it is a hodgepodge of hutches, desks, bookcases that don't match. More importantly I need better organization

I'm confused whether I should go with companies such as California Closets http://californiaclosets.com/ which does cabinets or do it via a local contractor. What are the pros and cons of each one? Thanks

HGTV used to be about creating personalized lifestyles, about getting your hands dirty in gardens you intend to watch mature from inside homes that reflected your character.

Now, it's curb appeal, increasing the market value of your home, squeezing every last cent out of prospective buyers, & turning your home into an ATM instead of building equity so that your home will always be your soft place to fall.

It's about what people will pay for 300 square feet in New York City, couples in crisis because they can't manage a bath remodel for less than $30,000, a kitchen remodel for less than $100,000, & newlyweds who can't find their dream home on a "budget" of $400,000.00.

Landscaping is not gardening. Copying is not decorating.

It's a leap to say that HGTV's exploitation of a homeowner's desire to turn a buck is responsible for the housing crisis in this country but, hey, sometimes the tail does wag the dog.

That's my take, what's yours?

I am in the process of finishing my basement. Im at the point to have carpet installed. The carpet folks are telling me the base trim should be installed prior to the carpet being installed - and should it about 1/2" off the floor. The trim guy is telling me the carpet should be installed first.

Who's right??

My cat likes to bite and pull out the feathers. Does anyone know where I could buy the plastic covers like the ones lamp shades come with when you buy them new?
I know it sounds tacky, but it's better than what I am doing now which is using the lamps with a bare bulb and no shade :)

my modular home has deep burgundy carpets in main parts of the house, the bedrooms are in the rust color. the kitchen has burgundy on the counter sides with white counter top, but the floor is a neutral color. Please help me with some ideas for color for the rooms. I have a Quill color from Glidden paint picked out for the living room, which is picking up some of the color from the stone fireplace. I don't want the same color in all the rooms, so please help me find some good colors that will match throughout my home. Right now it is all white !!

Ok so I'm really pretty and I love mirrors...I have a lot of them in my house, all over. I've even paid to have my closet doors redone as mirrors.

I noticed one day when I was look at the back of a mirror that it looks like there is just blackish paint on it, and if you scrape it off with your fingernail then it's regular glass.

So last night I was thinking...if you just painted the outside of your windows black would they become mirrored on the inside? Or is there a special kind of paint you must use?

If anyone could help me figure out how to make all my windows mirrors I'd be so so happy!

I have all the wall colors picked out I just can't decide on the ceilings. Everyone gives me a different opinion when I ask. Some say same as the walls, others say go one shade lighter but same color as walls, and others say WHITE. I'm have a light tan color in the kitchen so I am thinking that the ceiling could be the same since it is a lighter color. But the other rooms are a dark brown, a medium brown and a green what do I do there?

I have plain cream walls, can't paint, can't put any sort of hole (not even tacks) in the walls. I've decorated in green, browns, earthy tones. I have no money for wall decor. I'd like large, bright wall art. Please, give me ideas!
