Its so cute and cheap but does it hold up? I know you have to build a lot of the pieces but is it sturdy for a couple years use?

it's not the best, but it's decent. It seems to hold up well. Caution for anything made of compressed chip wood though...don't expect it to hold up if you're putting a lot of weight on it.

I have used Ikea furniture in the past. None of it is currently left. It's cheap and cheaply made. The upholstered pieces are the worst, followed by dinettes and bedding. Desks, office furniture, end tables are not as bad and hold up longer.

If you treat it with care, it can last a long time. However, if you have children or frequent get togethers, or you are just tough on furniture, don't expect it to last very long.

Customer service is terrible. There have been several occassions where I had one missing piece and it took weeks or months to get it. I had an entire 10 foot wide wall unit sitting around opened for 9 weeks waiting for two missing pieces. I think the store is just too big to provide any decent level of customer service. Often, I would wait for long periods of time just to talk to someone at the store.

It's okay for small spaces, smaller people, temporary or dorm furniture. Other than accessories, I've sworn them off forever.

JC Penny doesn't manufacture furniture. They sell furniture from a bunch of different manufactures. They have furniture in many price ranges from inexpensive to very expensive, in many many styles, contemporary to country. I bought 2 leather couches from them and they are great. The problem I had was getting the couches it took forever, The shipping company they used damaged one and getting the replacement took months. It wasn't really their fault but did reflect badly on them. They gave me a refund for the shipping so I saved another $150. All of the furniture Ikea sells is in the mid to low price range and some of the quality is questionable. It is geared to the younger less affluent buyer. I personally wouldn't buy any real furniture there. May be some stools or patio furniture.

We purchased a LARGE birch dinner (Norden) table in Phoenix as part of the Fiesta Bowl party hosted by the University of Utah in 2004. We love it, recently moved into a new house - and it's the only piece of furniture we owned that was still worth moving. It seats 8 easily, 12 with the leaf.
We looked at alternatives, and still feel that it was worth transporting home the 1500 miles, due to no local IKEA at the time. It's been used for various sport team dinners, scrap booking, and is solid.

I have been using Ikea coffee tables and end tables for about 4 years now. They are cheap...the legs broke off one of the tables because I would lean against it a lot. The other ones are holding up ok but you can see where the legs are starting to crack because they are just held on by one screw. Despite this, I would recommend them for the price. I got 2 Ikea tv stands that were more expensive than the tables, and better built...they have held up great.

Me and my boyfriend moved into our first apartment together about three months ago and since then we've been to Ikea about five times! Honestly, I'm not a big fan (only because it's not my taste) of their furniture but their stuff is pretty cheap and durable. You do have to assemble it yourself but it's worth it. So far we've bought a tv stand, desk chair, decorations for the entire house, cook ware, pots and pans and little things through out the house. The pots and pans are very durable and we cook everyday. I do believe their products are worth buying!

Yes, IKEA furniture are quite adequate; however, make sure it is well fitted, specially for larger items such as wardrobes. It is worth it using someone with some carpentry experience to assemble the larger items. They should then last you more than two years.

Just remember....You get what you pay for!!!!. Most of their furniture is made from partical board or pressed wood. It has a tendency fall apart after repeated use.
