My bathroom is 5 x 9 ....I used 12 x 12 and put them on a diagonal...it visually gives your eye something to do, and really opened up the space. Too large, and you won't get as much pattern, to small, it starts to look busy.
You can go with the smaller tiles on the walls, but I'd go on up with the 12's. Then if you run the floor on a diagonal, run the walls straight to break it up, but still look nice and consistant.

12" tile is nice. I think a smaller tile around the tub/shower could get outdated, I wouldn't do that in my bathroom.
I have 12" peel 'n stick tile by TrafficMaster from Home Depot in my bathroom. It's slate-like, no fake grout lines. I love it, was pretty cheap too at $50 a box. My bathroom is tiny, probably the same size as yours. This is a less permanent solution and it's not as cold as tile. If I get sick of it in 5 yrs, I can rip it up and lay something else. It can be used for commercial use, so it's super durable.

Yes, I would go with the smaller tiles in the shower and 12 X 12 on the floor. Lighter colors will open up the space. If you use a border pattern on the floor of a darker color it will also give the illusion of more space.

Caulking is probable superb at this factor, however, the acceptable seem will matter in part on the visual allure of the tile. occasion, some vinyl peal-n-stick have imitation grout borders. think you are able to journey the colour with a caulk it is going to fill in the grooves high-quality. in case you are able to't, yet there's a grout obtainable on the living house center that fits in colour, this is utilized over some caulking. positioned the grout down dry, thick sufficient to cover the caulking. as quickly as the caulking has dried, gently sweep away the surplus grout powder. actual, the respond that stated this is going to in no way seem precise is right. Tear all of it up and initiate over while you're thoroughly unhappy. make optimistic to make optimistic floor is point, dips and intense spots may well be inflicting the undesirable greater healthful you're seeing. Ask the living house center approximately self-leveling compounds obtainable. superb of success, do not provide up. :)

You should go with a smaller tile like 4"X4". Also, if you want to make the bathroom appear bigger...lay the tiles so that they look like diamonds rather than squares as you walk into the bathroom. We just re-did our bathroom and this made a world of difference in making it look bigger!!!!

The smaller the size of the tile, the larger the room will appear. Your eyes see more seperate images and make this effect.
