Sounds like you have a good palette to start with. First, add some other red things like candles, throws, pictures, flowers, vases, frames. Find a beautiful print pillow with red in it. Mix and match, flowers and plaid or stripes. I think brown would look good because of the walls and carpeting. Black would be too severe.

the best way to work it nicely is to either match exactly the color of the couch with pillow color, difficult to do.
Or, match the carpet as close as you can or go towards a slightly lighter color. Hue or color shade is important here.
you could try an antique white with a texture like lace cover or with embroidery that looks nice against the couch. But this means not using the pillows for anything but dressing. (no greasy head stains or hand prints)
I think that what would work best though is to find a nice mix between the carpet color and the red couch color that is on the 'burnt umber' or has a little yellow orange glow to it. maybe a gradient material that is vivid with color.
With colors in a room that don't really go together but don't clash, find a pattern or gradient or mix print that has the colors in the room in it, but is bold and acts as an accent on the couch. The couch is the center of attention now in the room. The bold pillows will become the focus and the couch will blend in a little more, becoming more inviting and welcoming.
When the couch stands out, I could see how it may be hard to be comfortable sitting down on it. The energy would be slightly offputting, but if the pillows do their job they would draw people to them and the couch would be totally accepted, because it is cool. Come on, a Red couch! cool.
Anyway if the red is RED and not a muted tone, then this works. The pillows should be on the warm tone side and bold. IF the red is soft and or cool, try the matching thing or maybe the mixed print thing.
Take a picture with your cell phone if you can and open the shades and turn on the lights so you have lots of light for the pic. try to get a full frame of the color of the couch that looks really close when you hold the phone next to the couch in the light. then when you go shopping, you have an 'swatch' of the couch to choose by. You might try to get a little carpet in the pic too or in a different pic. or make two trips to collect paint swatches that you think are close to all the major colors in the room. Take them home and compare, if they match use them to find a pillow that GOES well. or get under the edge of the couch and snip a small piece of the material from the bottom out of sight and not where it will rip out and look bad. Then you will have the real deal, a tuft of carpet color from the baseboard area and you are off to Steinmart or Joanns or wherever you get your pillows or material to cover them.
Hope that helps.
PEACE

Chocolate and vanilla. Dark chocolate colored pillows will add an 'anchor' effect to the room..... and the vanilla pillows will add a bright punch to the color scheme.
Go with dark and light contrasts on the walls.
Use very little red in the room. The couch is a HUGE focal point so just put little tiny touches of red in the room to tie it all together.
Go with rich chocolate browns to make the room look elegant and cozy instead of wild and crazy.

I like the ideas of black pillows. Also try to find some brown that match your carpet and then add an accent color like the red or peacock blue that was suggested here.

My red couch came with red, tan and green striped pillows. My walls are yellow and my floor is golden oak hardwood. My granddaughter said my couch and walls look like ketchup and mustard, and everything in my house should be white, like in hers. But what does she know? She doesn't even know how to do her own laundry, so nothing in her house is exactly white anymore.

How about rich brown/bronze pillows since you have brown carpet or maybe some with shimmery beading would look nice.

I think black pillows would go well with your red couch. Those two colours look good together in my opinion

red and brown or popular, you can also go window shopping at different furniture stores and see what kind of accessories they are using with a red sofa there...that is what I did, I have a brown sofa and I wallpaper my room blue and use blue and light yellow for accents

Orage pillows would blend. Gren ones would maximise the effect.
