I am about to move in to a studio/small loft apartment and want someone to design furniture layout/ paint/ accesories for it. I am tired of my furniture that I have at my current place that my parents gave me when I first moved out about a year ago. It doesn't really reflect my style at all.

I see pieces of furniture that I like all the time in magazines and showrooms, but I don't really know how to put it all together with paint and in the specific space nor do I have the time. The apartment is only 700 sq. ft, and it has somewhat of a unique layout. I just want it to look good, but I can't afford a $5000 designer like the ones listed in ASID... I like mostly modern design, but it has to be comfortable too.

Does anyone have any experience with hiring an art school student to do their interior design and complete their school work at the same time? What about store interior designers? Hmmm...

Thanks!!

My husband and I purchased land and we'd like to build. We want to cut as many corners as possible - doing things ourselves to get the cost down. What can we do ourselves?

We have navy and gold window treatments that are way too expensive to change . We have cathedral ceilings. Any recommendations on paint colors. Something to bring in a little light but blend the dark sofas/tables and gold/navy drapes.
thanks!

Hi, I've been removing wallpaper from a bedroom I'm remodeling and I've gotten most of it off (using a wallpaper removal spray in an orange bottle, I think the brand is Dep, not positive at the moment though). Now I want to wash the walls to remove all the glue because it's my intention to paint the walls in the coming couple of weeks (I have all the paint and supplies, but I have other rooms to paint and this room will be among the last to get done). What should I wash the walls with to make sure there is no glue left so that I can paint? I was planning on using hot water, but should I add something, like vinegar perhaps? Or anything else? I don't know if hot water alone will suffice or if I should clean it with a mixture of water and something else. If anyone has any tips for me (either as a professional or through first hand experience) I would really appreciate any advice you can provide me with. Thanks in advance. :)

I am doing my livingroom Spanish style (not Mexico - Spain). After researching I can only find very few colors they used on the walls. Ocre is mainly outdoor but was also used on the interior and of course Adobe. I just hate having plain white walls so I am hoping to use a brownish color on the walls and whitewash with white. Does anyone have any experience with this? I could use the help I've never done this technique. I also dont know if maybe a different technique would better mimic adobe walls.

Thanks !

Our contractor tells us there is an additional cost to sheetrock our bedroom because of the many angles in the room. Why would this cost more money?

At the moment, I have grey and orange walls, and i have 'stuff' everywhere! Lets have a look at whats next to my bed on the table...

stereo, lamp, camera, some old gig tickets, usb cales, mobile phone, alarm clock, bracletts from holiday, ohh and fork!well you get the gist!

I want to decorate over my half term college holidays, and I want my room to be clutter free. Im have a blue carpet (kinda speckled type - with light blues and dark blues in it).. which I will keep becuase im a student on a budget...

but the real question is, what colours should I go for. Something that I wont get bored of quicky, will suit my age.

I was thinking a brown/blue/cream colours?

ANY IDEAS? Or mums n dads or people around my age, whats you rooms, sons room like?!

please help!!! :D

We recently purchased a new home, and I'm having issues arranging the furniture in our master bedroom. The only two walls that I can place my bed in front of each have a 37" square window. My bed would be directly in front of the window. I'd really like to position the bed diagonally, but the room feels really cramped that way.

How can I either conceal or decorate around the window? I'm really at a loss. My headboard is 61" high and covers the bottom 12-14" of the window. I'd like to put something on the wall to completely cover the window, but I have no idea what to do so with. HELP! my livingroom only has two window and they are together.
The wall where the windows are is pretty big and the windows look small. What are some ways to make it look bigger?

by the way there is about 2 1/2 feet from the top of the window to the ceiling and I would love to do floor to ceiling curtains but I'm not sure if it'll look funny with the gap.

I got my neighbor to help me paint in three weeks but I have to come up with the colors. I have taupe drapes and couches with hard wood floors. My husband has hunting trophies on the walls (head mounts and horn mounts). I was thinking a golden yellow color. But then I am stuck on what color for the dining room that is like part of the living room.
