If I am not wrong Solid hardwood is one piece hardwood, engineering is multiple peice sheets glued on top of each other and Laminated is just plastic. Please correct me.

Here is my situation. I just purchased townhouse, which has ceramic tiles installed and I want to replace it with hardwood. I will be staying in this house for approx 5 years and I want to install something that look good for these 5 years, which can also help me in selling after 5 years and does not require me to spend couple of thousand dollar every couple of years to maintain/polish it or change it.
Total area I am considering would be around 400 sq ft including living room and common area and does not include dining or kitchen.
I don't want to spend lot of money but also don't want to get something that look cheap (now or after couple of years of use).

this site says that laminate has problem of scratches too.
Please suggest among these three types.

My husband and I are designing the layout for our new home now, and we have everything just about settled. If you designed your own home's layout, what would you have done differently... or even if you bought your own home, what would you change?
Thanks!

My home has an enclosed porch and I would like to convert it to an open porch. I'm wondering what would that entail, how long would it take and how costly would it be?

I spent a lot of money cleaning the plants out and installing showers and benches. Very nice wood ones by the way. Now my women guests complain about a lack of privacy. Privacy? With those little string thong bikinis they wear, what do they need privacy for?

I thought they would appreciate the showers and facilities. Not to mention the fact that they can still work on their tan while dressing, or undressing. But no. What is with women?

When I removed some of the decorations, the panelling came off on the strips of tape!

It is evident, the tape was there, simply because that area of panelling is now bare & discolored from the tape.

These discolorations look really bad & they are throughout the Family Room.

The holidays are rapidly approaching & this is where our guest are entertained!

What can I use to disguise the tape marks on the panelling?

Thank you so very, very much!

Can you suggest a type of flower that would decorate a grand party? It's just detail research for a story I am writing.

It's probably impossible to picture, but the window is part of the dining room and part of the entryway/living room. The carpet is that old mottled beige/brown stuff from the eighties and the walls are off-white. Our couch is a sage/olivish green with beige trim around the edges of the pillows and the accent colour is red, with everything else being relatively earthy. No particular style...maybe slightly modern and slightly country?? I'm trying to decide if white curtains would look best to make it more open and airy, or if a darker colour (suggestions?) would look better to make it seems cozier. Opinions???

rich color. My question is from a design standpoint should we only paint 1 wall or 2...and does it matter which of the 4 wall we paint?

Thanks...Rob

I have a two shelf bookcase. Color is White! I just moved into a new place and my new furniture, the carpet and the color of the wall don't match the bookshelf. How can i repaint the bookcase without screwing it up? Do i need to use a sand paper to get the white color off? I don't know anything about it, any help is appreciate it!

My house is 5 years old. The carpet looks like it is 15 years old (cheap builders carpet). I have 2 dogs (both about 50lbs) and a cat. We are trying for our first child. Would you reccommend the hardwood laminate flooring or a better quality carpet?

I've enclosed my former porch & now have (3) 8' walls (14' x 20' x 14'), with (4) regular sized windows (2 at each corner), a small square hole for an A/C unit, & (1) set of sliding glass doors.
There is nothing fancy, I'll paint it when it's done, already been Tyveked, I want a smooth finish. Its a pretty straight forward box, a full crew should be able to get it done in under a day. I've gotten it up to the point where I'm ready to go out and get some qoutes to get it done.
I'm wondering if you know how much a job like this should cost approximately? I have no idea, and I want to make sure I know before I get my qoutes.

I live in an old farmhouse, and there aren't many windows. The ones that we have are in bad spots. So there's not much natural light in my house and it feels gloomy.

Our living room has three white walls and one fake-wood-paneled wall.

Will just painting the living room make it brighter and less gloomy?

And are there maybe lighting tricks or something that i don't know about?!
