I like warm, soft, bright colors. I also enjoy a cool blue, but it has to be just right for the effect I like the most. I am more for the warm colors however, but not overly dark.
I use color to open up a room or area and make it have a light and airy feel. A touch of accent in darker hues is cool too. I use pillows and accent walls, such as built in plant shelves, etc, to give a touch of punch with the more vibrant darker colors. I use them lightly though, as for me it is overwhelming to have too much dark color.
My sister is into christmas colors, dark greens and rust reds. She also uses shades of purples and rose in her bedroom. While it looks good, it is too intense for my tastes.
Color is one of the best ways to make a home reflect a personality. I dispise all white houses, where it is so blah, and institutionized. Such homes remind me of hospitals, which I can go without for the rest of my life, if possible! lol

You could do tons of colour with black, white grey accents (think a cobalt blue or cherry red wall with black and white photographs, for example), or go neutral with coloured accents (mushroom wall, black sofa with red throw pillows).
Also, colouring every wall will have its moment, but what happens when you tire of it? Or want to change it? It will be more expensive and time consuming than laying a neutral foundation and using colour for your accents. You can switch those around or replace them a lot easier than repainting or replacing large coloured furniture. Budget plays a part here.
Remember, there can be too much of a good thing so make your selections carefully, but at the end of the day do what suits your taste and wallet best.
Have fun!

COLORS!
Many colors can be quite tasteful if you choose each to transition well into the next room and the next room and the...Well you get it.
The trick is smooth transitions from room to room.
