Our contractor tells us there is an additional cost to sheetrock our bedroom because of the many angles in the room. Why would this cost more money?

Yeah, there are a couple more joints and a little more tape , but not that much extra work. Most of the sheet rockers I've seen don't even use a tape measure....heck if they are within 3/4 of an inch that is good enough.If the extra charge is $50.00 go for it. If he is trying to add on $500.00 get another estimate. Most of these jobs aren't that tough, the builder just tries to make you think it is.

I can't tell you why without seeing the job, but your opening statment....."Our contractor" sounds like you only got one bid. #1 Never, give a contractor the job without getting 3 bids. #2 Never give them more than 20% of the total cost up front. Devide it into 3 payments and don't give them the last 33% until they have finished and you are happy with the job. Good luck.

This is going to consume more time for the contractor, which means more man hours, which means more money.

Time needed to get the lines straight. More labor.

Labor intensive and more joints to tape and smooth out.
