I'm going to install 13x13 tiles in my bath wall surround. Underneath the old tiles was regular drywall, 1/2 inch. I'm going to replacing that the hardibacker with moisture control. Should I stay with the 1/2 thick size? Also, there were some thin strips of what appeared to be thick tape between the two drywalls, near where the stud is. Any idea what this is and if I need to replace it? Thank you.

Hello. I bought my North London flat a few years ago and have just got to the point where I can afford to do it up. One feature I could live without is the old gas fireplace in the sitting room (one of those ugly industrial-looking dust-catchers with beige metal front panels and metal grille - as opposed to those funny retro style ones with fake logs, which would at least be a talking point). But British Gas have told me that it's part of the boiler so to change it/get rid of it i'd have to change the whole system - which would cost 4-5 grand! Anyone got any ideas on how I can disguise it or something? My flat is supercute and the fireplace so depressing! Mabe I should just move...

It is in a corner, between the living room and a bedroom. All the windows in the house have vertigal blinds but I'm not sure if I want vertigal blinds on the conservatory. I thought roller blinds might be good as I'd be able to put plants on the windowsill then. Really not sure, would I need to stick to vertigal blinds to keep in with the rest of the house? Any advice you have would be most welcome, thanks.

A friend of mine did some remodeling and has a large bathroom mirror that he is trying to get rid of. It is too large to fit into a truck, so he can't really take it anywhere. He wants to smash it into little pieces and put it out with the trash. Do you think this is a good idea?
