It depends on the role of the architect within the project.
If the architect was contracted in such a was as to not have responsibility of the end product, then the architect probably will only interact with a minimal amount of people.
If the architect is responsible for the outcome of the project, then it is the architects responsibility to ensure everything is going according to plane and thus will have lots of contact and in charge of everything.

The upshot is, what responsibility does the architect have on the project?
