I always go for unexpected furniture arrangements. Is it possible to use the entertainment center between the living and dining area as a room divider? You could anchor it to a side wall or to the ceiling with thin cables and toggle bolts. If the back is finished you wouldn't have to cover it up but a nice drape hung from the ceiling could cover up the works and act as a backdrop for a buffet table or side board in the dining area. Pull the couch away from the wall and make it part of a divider between the living area and perhaps the front door or the hallway. If its between the living area and the front door, place a tall sofa table behind it to hold a lamp and hold incoming mail and car keys. Baskets under it can hold books and magazines. 900 sq feet is small compared to the monsters being built today but is still plenty of room for what you now own. My house is only 1000 sq feet and my furniture is large scale and it doesn't feel crowded at all.

I also live in a small home...about 650 sq feet, I believe. So, I know the challanges you're facing. We also have large pieces of furniture to move around.

I don't believe you need to throw out your furniture. Large pieces can work fine in a small home if they're stategically placed AND if you don't have too many pieces of furniture.

You can use your couch to seperate your living area from your dining area....or, if you have an eat-in kitchen, forget the divingroom all together.

You can create a little diagram and use moveable pieces of paper for your furniture. Draw your room on a large sheet of paper or tag-board. Make it scaled down so it's 1 foot = 1 inch. Do the same thing with your furniture...doesn't have to be perfect...just approximatly the same size. Then cut out your furniture templates and see how they work on the tag-board sized room.

Most importantly...rearrange the furniture so YOU"RE comfortable with it. Give yourself plenty of room to move around the couch or whatever else you have. When you sit down on your furniture and truely feel comfortable...you know you've "got it".

Do whatever you need to do to downsize your furniture. Your house is too small for large things. Go to furniture store that has an interior designer in house to help you pull the right sizes of furniture for your situation. I know Gordan's Furniture in Michigan has designers on staff. If you can't find a designer or afford one consider a one day decorator who does personal shopping. They usually can tell what will work for small rooms and what scale furniture to buy.

throw it all away and get some love sacks.. 900 sq ft cant handle that much furniture and feel anything less than cluttered.. you need to minimize what you do have and add more subdued furniture and accessories. if you cant sell the entertainment center give it to someone less fortunate or throw it out.. it will continue to be the focal point and cause of the cluttered feel.

I don't know the exact setup of your room, but I also have an attached living dinging room with open area kitchen. I put my entertainment unit next to a huge sliding glass door and pushed my couch to the middle of the room closer to the tv. I have my kitchen table right behind my couch. It opened up a huge walk space near the table from the outside door. I also have my work area up against the wall next to the couch with a walk way between them.
