I am 20 years old and am about to buy my first house. I was lucky enough to find a huge house at a small price. The cost of the house was driven down by the fact that it will cost nearly $700 a month alone on heating and electricity. Do you have any realistic suggestions on alternative ways to provide heat and electricity to my house without paying "The Man" for it?

We are thinking of putting in an above ground pool in the coming spring. We live in Maine where the season is short so it's more cost effective than inground. Has anyone done it themselves and if so is it REALLY to big of a task to tackle as a DIY project?

Which countries around the world have lots of gardening centres?
There are certainly plenty in my native England, because there are so many keen gardeners. Where else would I expect to see garden centres, and gardens that the householders look after?

we have a 1-1/2 story cape, where the second floor was converted and finished. There are 3 rooms up there. The front and middle rooms stay cooler, but the room in the back is awfully hot... probably doesn't get cooler than 80-85 on days when its around 90 or so. We thought of a couple things:
1. No attic or roof fan is up there. Should we put one in, and, if so, what is the best option. there is not a lot of room between the ceiling and the roof. *we had insulation blown in the entire house a year ago. How do we get the hot air vented out???
2. There is no return upstairs... is it essential to have one?
3. There is a ceiling fan in the first room, but not this one... we are going to put one in, will that help a lot?
4. The a/c coming up is weak out of the vent... it is an old house and the duct is smaller for some reason.

In general, it is hotter upstairs than downstairs (i know that is how it goes). But what is the easiest, best way to make it cooler and more efficient up there!!

I have a really large mirror that has no border on it. I was wondering if it might be possible to add a wood border to it or some kind of border so I can put it up in my bathroom. It is sucha waste to have it sitting there.
Thanks so much for any help??

I have a frigidaire powerwasher 2200, I don't know what year, it's old. When I turn it on I don't hear any water going into it. I turned it to rinse and there was water running. But when I let it run a full cycle until it stops, the dishes are dry as a bone and very, very hot. And they are still dirty. What could be my problem? Is there anything I can do without having to call someone to come fix it?

There used to be a window cleaner that you connect to a garden hose and it cleaned the windows and they looked clear and clean when done. Does something like this still exist?

Spiders keep dropping from the ceiling onto my bed at night. They tend to land near my face which isn't cool. Last night one dropped on my bed just as I was about to sleep. WTF. I mean a spider on the floor is bad enough, but for them to be aiming for your face while you sleep. That's just wrong. What can I do to prevent spiders from dropping from my ceiling at night? Where are they coming from? Air duct?

I am trying to buy a sink for use with a bathroom vanity but don't know what kind to get. The descriptions for sinks all look the same but the prices vary widely. What is a self-rimming sink? What kind of sink would I need to get to go with a regular bathroom vanity?

I don't know how it's termed but the "white cement" that are around or rather that held the tiles are slowly being removed. I tried filling them up again with white cement but they come off again after some time. The tiles still look new. Any suggestions?
