I started these irises from seed that I traded for. The person that I traded with called them Iris setosa, but I am certain that that is NOT what they are. This iris is hardy to at least Zone 3, it is about 18" tall, and flowers in early to mid spring (June) and it sets seed easily and is fairly easy to start from seed. Here are some pictures

I have a very small 17 year old ficus tree that is dropping leaves like crazy. Because we recently moved to a 6 plex that has no windows with good light (The only light that it gets is indirect) I am wondering if this could be the cause. I am a newbie to caring for a ficus tree, and I would really be upset if it went completley naked. Also, are there any tips to stimulating new growth? The previous owner never fertilized the tree, and I didn't want to do something that might shock the "delicate" (i.e. tempermental) sensibilities of the tree. Any and all help with my fical ficus would be greatly appreciated.

I've heard of the Stargazer Lily that seems to gaze at the sky. But what about other flowers? Some that have names like "moon watcher" or "stargazer" or something? Is there any other flower that gazes at the stars and has a name for their nocturnal nature?

I have to use a horrible mattress for the next year and am looking for a really thick, comfortable mattress pad to make the bed more bearable. Where can I find something like that?

Hi guys we are looking at buying a property with an older house on it, that is too small to have a small family in. Right now it is just us, but in the future we want kids.

We have about 60k to spend, but ideally we would be spending closer to 40k.

Generally speaking of course, what is the most economic solution? Our thought is to either live in the small house while another is being built OR until our prefab is ready, or to renovate the older home and add about 300-400 square feet onto it. My fiance has worked in construction, and is very good with do it yourself stuff, so I think we could definitely save some money doing basic things concerning the reno. I'm assuming the reno would be cheap, but as I'm new to this, no idea what we could safely budget. We would NOT be moving any plumbing, if we add on and redo the kitchen it will be to extend counter space.

Thanks a bunch for any advice.

Its a Kenmore machine, purchased in 2000. It is a top loader. There is no smell of burning. I don't see a belt, which was my first idea, in the parts list. Any ideas and if so, do you think its worth having it repaired?

I am building a 3000 squre footage house in a subdivision in CT. The framing was just completed. The work on the roof will be started this week, and the window will be put this Friday. The kitchen cabinet is ordered and will be delivered in the middle of Sept. I was told by the builder that the house would be completed by the end of September. Is this timeline reasonable?

I was given a stuffed soft Opus penguin, but it's gotten dingy. I've vaguely heard I can put it in the washer. Gentle cycle, normal? And how do I keep the insides from mildewing if not totally dry? Any advice?

I have a massive cactus that's looking like it's going to be a whopper... and we don't really have the floor space to hold it in our house. If I planted it outside, would it survive the cold? We're in south central Manchester and it's pretty sheltered here...

Some of my privet hedging is a bit sparse around the bottom, which leaves huge unsightly gaps. Is there any way of encouraging it to sprout some new shoots, e.g. making nicks in the main stalk?

the oven came with the house. it has the 'self-cleaning' function. i have never used it before and don't have the manual. i read about it online. it seems like i just turn on that function and it will burn all the dirty things in the oven into ashes. i am still a bit wary though. the oven will be a very high temperature and run for some time, i imagine, which sounds like a safety hazard. can you share your experience with me? Thank you.

I keep my house immaculate & we do not leave food around. That's why I cannot understnd why everytime I turn around, there are more damn sugar ants in the house! I'll find them in the oddest of places too- on a windowsill in my son's room (he doesn't eat in his room), in the bathroom, on the washing machine. I literally cannot leave a glass of WATER next to my bed during the night because if I go to take a sip, guaranteed there will be ants in it. We have tried traps, ant spray on the inside and outside of the house, I don't know what else to do short of setting the house on fire! I'm just so tired of these things! Any suggestions!?

I am having an issue with a tree tree in my backyard. The tree is very nice and rather large, and I believe there is some sort of insect issue with the tree. There are nests that are taking over limbs of the tree with a web like form around the leaves and it is causing the leaves and even the branch to die. I have spotted what I believe are caterpillars around the tree, but I am unsure. Also, a lot of the leaves are also becoming very spotty and holey.

I am unsure of the type of tree but it is at least 40 years old and I can send pictures of the tree and the webs and insects I have seen.
