I found it growing in my backyard one day (where I have lived for over 20 years)! No one planted this either, so I wonder how it got there? I live in Northern Illinois.

Congratulations! You have an Asiatic lily growing in your yard. They grow from bulbs, so its likely either an animal brought it to you or someone is practicing a random act of gardening. Either way, enjoy the gift!

It is a pink star lily. Maybe it came in by bird, but I doubt it. Did you get one as a gift one year and toss it in the yard when it was done blooming? Regardless, it is pretty. If it is not in a place that you want it, move it carefully! It will last for years!

Oddly enough I have a huge bunch of these in a floor standing vase in silk.

I always thought the blooms looked like a lily bloom.

Bird dropping bring in all types of seeds.

I would call that a Lillie. If you pick it to put in a vase inside they will last a few days but carefully take out the small yellow furry buds inside the flower because when they drop they stain and be careful when you take them off the flower as they will stain your hands too.

That looks like a stargazer oriental lily. If it's got a really strong fragrance (some say they smell like a funeral parlor), that's what it is for sure.

Can't give you an answer about how it got into your yard, but enjoy!

It's some kind of lily. Mind the pollen as it will stain your clothing.
