What is a tried-n-true fix for rust stains (streaks) in toilet due to running water?

There is a thing called pumice scouring stick. It's a pumice stone. Some people call them porcelain stones. You can find them at Lowe's home improvement store's. You wet the stone and scrub the stained area which produces a paste. It really works. It's also great for getting hard water rings out of the toilet.

Aside from fixing the problem, call a janitorial store (from the yellow pages) and ask for 23% HCL toilet bowl cleaner. I used it all the time at my restaurant. It's commercial grade. It's a nasty thing, don't breathe or touch it, but your toilet will be sparkling. Oh, and don't mix it with anything else.

I've tried lots of products. Sometimes they just don't work.
There has been a few times where I've actually had to take
a flat head screw driver and scrape the deposits off. It
works. I've also thought about using a rotary tool like a
dremel with an emery attachment, but I've been able to do it
with a screw driver so far.
