the oven came with the house. it has the 'self-cleaning' function. i have never used it before and don't have the manual. i read about it online. it seems like i just turn on that function and it will burn all the dirty things in the oven into ashes. i am still a bit wary though. the oven will be a very high temperature and run for some time, i imagine, which sounds like a safety hazard. can you share your experience with me? Thank you.

my self cleaning oven works great, mine locks when it is in the cleaning mode and the oven door cannot be opened until it is done, yes it runs at a very high temp........just wipe out the bottom with a dry cloth when its cooled..........each oven is different so unless there were specific instructions that you read online you may want to contact the manufacturer with the make and model number and have them send you a users manual.............good luck

It will burn at a very high temp. That is to reduce all residue to ash. That is the design. You can also place your baking pans in the oven during the cycle, burn off residue. If your not comfortable with the oven clean cycle, you can purchase cleaners for self cleaning ovens. I have a gas range, love the self cleaning option. Cleans the racks, and sides, and my broiler pan, and baking sheets. When the cycle is finished, allow to cool down(the door wont unlock until a certain temp). Then wipe it out with a water soaked cloth.

You are right you turn it on and it burns off the baked on food. Then when you are done, you just wipe the dry residue out.

Do not worry about the safety, the oven door locks when the cleaning function is on. Do not touch the outside though and keep children away while cleaning.

I have a self cleaning electric oven and I love it.. You don't need to use cleaners.. Just set it for self cleaning and go to bed.... The oven super heats for 3 hrs. 800 degrees and at first like you I was worried but, after 4+yrs. of owning the oven I've had no trouble.. I usually self clean my oven in the colder months, so it doesn't heat the house.... good luck

I have a self cleaning oven in my rental apartment. The instructions are printed right around the knobs. I was amazed at how easy it was. When I use the self cleaning function, sometimes I turn it off sooner. Just make sure you are home in case of anything bad happening.
