They make really good primer paints especially for going over dark colors. IT should only take 1 coat of primer.

Hi, You can use a water based primer like Zinsser Bulls Eye 123, it will block the red pigment from the existing paint job. You don't have to prime until the wall is solid white. If you know what color you'll be painting then ask the store to put a quart formula of tint into the gallon.

Since it is a bright pink i would guess about 2-3 coats of primer. If you go with tinted primer it'll be even less.

Should only take one coat. Zinnzer (sp?) and Kilz can both be tinted to a color close to the new color you want to paint.

I would do two coats just to be on the safe side. My bedroom was mauve-pink and was painted lavender.

Probably two with a high-hide primer. My favorite is Kilz latex.

Go to a paint shop and let them help you. They have all kinds of neat ways to cover paints.
