it depends on the brand, but the one that I used said 7-10 days. to be safe, I would suggest waiting 2 weeks...

It depends on the chemical you use. If you use round-up it doesn't last as long as others. You can plant in three or four days. Read the label to know what weeds are killed and for how long, and when it is safe to plant or lay sod.

It depends on which chemical you use -- read the label. Some weed killers are soil sterilants and nothing will grow in the space for a year or more.

Round up is the safest as it will be out of the soil in two weeks.

Don't use weedkiller -- it never really goes away. Cover the area with tarpaulins held down w/ stones. Weeds will wither in a few weeks. Be careful when you pull them up ( you'd have to pull them up if you use weedkiller, they don't just dissolve) so the seeds don't spread.There is a fuller explanation in natural gardening books , I think hot water is used too.
