We live on the south coast of England, and the mild winter has meant our lawn is looking a bit long and shaggy. Today is the first time it has been dry enough to think about getting the mower out, other half thinks it's too early, but I reckon it will just make it even harder the longer we leave it.

Can anyone tell me where I can buy ready made gingham blinds please? I have searched high and low for red gingham blinds for my kitchen but can't find any in shops or online! The closes thing I have found is red gingham material in Laura Ashley and I could have them made but if I could find ready made ones that would be great! I am in the UK.

Hi, I'd like to try companion planting carrots next to onions in my allotment. I'm a bit confused though because onions seem to need rich soil and carrots need poorer soil. What quality of soil would be best for both? Could carrots cope with well manured soil? Any advice gratefully received.

I bought a Christmas tree and the man I got it from told me it was "partially rooted". It's still in the bucket in the garden and looks healthy. Do you think it could survive if I plant it in the garden, or will it gradually just die? If you think I should plant it, would it do better in a damp area or an area that gets more sunlight? Thanks

I have painted a (bedroom) feature wall in suede effects, colour Mineral Green.
What would be a good colour to paint the other three walls?
And what about the window architraves?
I'm not adventurous with colour and would prefer a muted shade.
All ideas are appreciated.

about 4 months ago, i got my first 1bdrm apartment, and no matter what i do, i can never get my apartment to have my "touch". I dnt got much money, so expensive add-ons are out! im not allowed to paint the apartment, and i cant really alter it much, but how do i get a good energy vibe in my apartment? it just seems pretty boring in here, and im always home, so i want a more vibrant environment. I also want my apartment to kinda have an Indian touch to it to reflect my culture. i have Indian calendars everywhere, pictures of deities such as Ganesh,Krshna, Amba, etc...and i wrote words on the wall out of red powder(washes off, commonly used in prayers)...and i got a few Indian textiles up. There's not much furniture...just stuff passed down to me...and i just wanna know how I can give it my "touch" without being too costly. I cant buy furniture, or "fancy things"...how can i make my apartment my home?
