Well this should be easy, First you must sponge or spray on White Vinegar on the sole plate allow it to soften the residue for five minutes, then use a piece of Tin Foil balled up and scrub the sole plate, this should come off if not repeat process. There is also another idea if the Vinegar don't work but I am sure it will, try a prduct called Goo Gone. Always use a cool iron when performing any of these steps Good Luck !

Remember to wait until the iron is cool before you begin the cleaning process. . Here are a few tips that might help you learn how clean your steam iron.

If the substance stuck on the bottom of the iron is waxy, you should turn the iron onto its highest setting and run it across newspaper until the residue disappears.

If the substance is oily, then just wet a rag with ammonia. Next, just rinse the iron off with some water and the gunk should be gone.
Vinegar works as a cleaning agent for many irons. Pour some on a clean cloth, and wipe the surface of an iron throughly. If that doesn't work, combine vinegar with baking soda. With a soft cloth, scrub the surface of the iron.
You can get rid of any build-up in the vents of the iron by taking a cotton swab or a pipe cleaner and gently sweeping the residue out of the area. If you attempt to use something of a harsher nature, like a tool or a knife, you could scratch the base of the iron, causing future problems.
To clean the reservoir of your iron, pour a solution that is one part vinegar to one part water in. Turn the iron on. Allow it to steam for about four minutes. Drain the iron for an hour, and be sure to repeat the process with clean water before you iron any clothing items.

When the iron is still warm use a scourer sponge and soak with white vinegar. This will get rid of stains. Dont rub too hard though otherwise it will scratch the plate.
Rinse thoroughly with clean sponge before using again
Good luck

white spirit or nail varnish remover very little on cotton wool wash the iron and wipe completeley before using again. to prevent this put some wax in an old tea towel or pillowcase and rub the iron over the top so the iron is touching the material not the wax. the wax will heat up and put a thin protective coat on the iron leave it to cool for a day or so then its ready to use.

before trying any of the cool iron cleaning methods, (depending on the amount of gunk) try running the hot iron over some old newspapers or paper grocery sacks. this will remove the majority of the plastic without scratching the plate.
