I would like to start some of my plants indoors this year, but none of my windows would offer enough sunlight. I've heard of people using "grow lights" to grow pot indoors, but I don't know anything about them. I just want to get a start on my outdoor flowers.

We want to have kids soon...and I've heard that leather is a really easy clean up for messes that kids make. However, we also have a dog and a cat and they both jump on the furniture occasionally. I'm worried that their claws with leave a lot of scratches on a leather couch...what do you think would be the best bet for the type of sofa that would be easy to clean, yet durable against scratches, etc...?

ps...we plan to keep our pets off the furniture, but as we don't have nice furniture now and they are used to getting up there, it will take some training and it only takes once to put a nice big scratch on your couch...

Anyone got any words of wisdom/advice regarding costs etc to buy a wooden framed house kit for self build. I realise that there must be hundreds of various styles to choose from but just for an idea on costs say a reasonable looking 4/5 bed house. How much to buy the kit & how much is possible for an average keen handy diy'er to do?

I have an 80ft metasequoia (I think) in my back garden. It is deciduous and the fine leaves are distributed around the garden during autumn. I have a vegetable patch which gets a lot of the drop from the tree. Does anybody know what effect, if any, the leaf fall might have on the acidity etc of the soil? I ask because I seem to be unable to grow onions, carrots but can grow potatoes and peas. I'm going to buy a soil tester, but any help would be appreciated.

Like most tables of this kind, a nut and bolt system is used, but the bolt has worked itself out of the leg, creating an enlarged hole in the process. Once I’ve plugged the whole with a dowel I can’t see a way of driving the bolt back into the leg without a slot for a screwdriver at the end of it. Can one glue bolts back into legs perhaps? Any ideas appreciated, we'll be eating off the coffee table tonight!

This is in continuation to a question I posted earlier today.....

In trying to remove the shut-off valve (that is for a dishwasher hookup) from the main hot water line under the kitchen sink, it just turns and turns and turns in the same spot w/out showing any threading.

How to I get this removed so that I can either replace it or put a stopper on it so it will quit leaking?

He is a DIY enthusiast who always is knocking some wall down or something, he thinks he knows it all but really has no clue. Surely I must have some rights to make him replace this piece he has taken down !
