Like most tables of this kind, a nut and bolt system is used, but the bolt has worked itself out of the leg, creating an enlarged hole in the process. Once I’ve plugged the whole with a dowel I can’t see a way of driving the bolt back into the leg without a slot for a screwdriver at the end of it. Can one glue bolts back into legs perhaps? Any ideas appreciated, we'll be eating off the coffee table tonight!

Thank u Davis S, Pottytime,Zocko and Sukito. To David S, these bolts to which you refer, do they have slots on the bolt end to turn them with a screwdriver?

if you fill the hole half way with either toothpicks or some other filler, then add wood glue and drive the bolt back in. You take the bolt and take a nut off one of the other legs. run one bolt on half way then run a second bolt on till it runs into the first one. If you do it right you should be able to tighten it up with a wrench. One bolt will snug up to the other and give you a grip.

No More Nails or equivalent is the answer. It is extremely effective, sometime too much so. But I guess that, as it's after 4:00 on a Sunday, that's not an option. Wrapping a thin bit of cardboard (like from a cereal box) around the nut should give you a bit more of a fix. Then clout the bold with a hammer (preferably the side of a hammer with newspaper inbetween hammer and table to absorb the shock and it should do the trick. At least until Homebase (or whatever) opens tomorrow...

Best of luck.

If you have already glued a dowel into the hole, drill another new hole into the dowel area and screw in a new bolt. They have bolts with a screw on one end and a regular threaded bolt on the other, screw in the new bolt of the proper size, I'd take in the old bolt to the hardware store and they'll get one of the same size.
