I would like to start some of my plants indoors this year, but none of my windows would offer enough sunlight. I've heard of people using "grow lights" to grow pot indoors, but I don't know anything about them. I just want to get a start on my outdoor flowers.

You're talking bedding plants not house plants right? Seedlings, even those flowers that prefer shade need lots of light to get started. I use thousands of dollars in HID lighting to manipulate my plants in various ways but I started out cheap. Buy a couple of shop lights and mix one cool white and one warm white (don't bother with grow lights they're expensive and are more for show than grow) in each fixture and set them up in your sunniest window. After your seeds sprout keep the light adjusted 2" to 4" above the leaves until they're ready for the great outdoors. RScott

You will not have much success growing bedding plants in the house with available sunlight. It just is not enough light. I use four. four foot fluorescent tubes. I have the lights on for 8 hours a day. They do need the rest. I do this every year. Last year i did 32 tomato plants some pepper plants and 4 corona cucumbers..I have a greenhouse.

most of the plants can be kept indoors for a couple of weeks (2-3) water them daily or every other day, have a few to rotate, 2-3 weeks inside, 1- 11/2 months outside

I easily have 8 indoor flora, and before each little thing, I too killed them plenty. I discovered that contained in the summer, maximum flora opt for to be watered once each a million-2 weeks, and contained in the iciness, they opt for to bypass 4-6 weeks between watering. counting on your plant, some opt for a great number of image voltaic via out the day, and some opt for little, right it really is the position it receives complicated, some opt for a great number of image voltaic, yet indirectly because the magnification of sunshine because of the glass on your window can burn them. My miniature rose needs about 10 hours of sunlight an afternoon, yet I easily might want to placed him contained in the window, on the area of the ledge that doesn't get direct image voltaic, otherwise he will die, which 0.5 of him did this summer when I moved him over a pair of inches to get something and forgot to placed him decrease back. also, in case you take advantage of fertilizer, attempt to dilute it two times as a lot as is cautioned and easily use it once a month contained in the water you take advantage of to water the flora, you may up the time you take advantage of it to 2-4 cases a month in the course of the summer, yet bypass with 2 and word how properly it does. Over fertilizing can create complications too. And finally... search for pests, also ascertain you're utilising spring water and not in any respect city water, and rotate them weekly 1 / 4 of a turn for over all balanced boom. :) playstation I continually try this to all my flora, placed an inch of stone pebbles contained in the bottom to allow drainage of water. I also use clay pots on flora that needs their soil slightly extra dry than others.
