I have a brass faucet in my bathroom that I will eventually have replaced, but right now its caked with calcium and minerals from the hard water. I bought some "Brasso" and it didn't work and a lot of the Lime Away-type products say not to use on brass fixtures. Anyone have a suggestion?

Well, i'm doing a science fair project on the growth of red bean plants, how long would it take for a red bean plant to grow to 15 cm, including the roots, in a plastic baggie and wet towel? I'll put it near a window for sunlight.

Dirt... sweat... these things get dirty, but a washing machine obviously messes them up. What is the standard way to clean a baseball hat?

My husband and I both smoke in our house. Every day when I get home from work, there is a stale smoke smell lurking in our house. What can I do to keep it under control other than candles or opening windows (we live near chicago so that's not an option at the moment with the weather).

please also dont answer with "stop smoking in the house".

i''m only here asking to hear SERIOUS answers.

anyone know of a real remedy that doesn't involve candles or insense to just cover up the smell?

Hi. I live on the second floor in an apartment building. We have noticed a VERY foul smell in the bathroom. We had someone come "fix" it, but I dont know what was wrong as I dont speak the language here and he didnt speak English. The smell was gone for about 24 hours. Gradually has been coming back. It actually caused me to vomit a few times! Its bad.
There is nothing in the bathtub or sinks when we flush. No clogs. So I finally noticed that when I close the lid sometimes, the smell gets better. I did that tonight and when I reopened it, the water was bubbling. Almost like a tiny boil.
Anyone know what this is and what to say to the people when they come to fix it again???
Also, is this serious? I am pregnant and cannot take any risks. There are no windows in the bathroom, so I am pretty nervous about ventilation. But when I open the bathroom door, the whole apartment smelle up. Please help!!!

i wants some cool looking car rims, im 20 and im still living with my mom. im debating on rims to go on my car or using that to go towards my apartment and keep my factory rims and tires so that it wont throw off my odometer and cause suspension problems, my car is brand new so my factory rims are stylish but i want black rims with chrome lips but scared someone may steal them or they start losing quality over time or they get old to me. its gonna be over $1,000 to get them. someone please help with your opinion on what i should do. also about the apartment, i make enough to live alone but i also want new rims but im debating on which to choose, also we gotta be out of this house by march 26 2007 and my mom say she dont know where im gon stay becuz she gotta get a 1 bedroom so thats why im confused. what would you do/choose? apartment or band new car rims?

I've just my Gas bill in which is way to expenisve for the last quarter, (i appreciate in the winter it would be) However, is this because I have a back boiler on my living room gas fire & this probably many years old?? (i've only lived in this property for the last 10months) so i dont know the full history, but generally is it worth getting rid of this boiler?

I'm just trying to decide whether or not to pitch a couch that has been in a basement for a while and seems to have sprouted some mold! I know it varies, but I wasn't sure if there was anyone who's ever had it done and could give a vague ballpark! : ) Thanks!

I have a sump pump and a drainage in the basement. If the sump pump circuit resets (which it has), I get water in the basement (I had to pull out all carpet). On one half, I did a ceramic tile floor for a living room area (which looks good). The other half (that has the drainage and sump pump and is slighly sloped)is a home gym. I need ideas for this area. It has to be waterproof and allow water to drain if necessarry. Any suggestions?

My electric oven just started making a perculiar buzzing sound when I put it on to preheat-when I opened the door, the side panel bit inside it was glowing white and smoking like it was about to blow up!
I turned it off straight away, but why did this happen? its quite old i suppose.

I spilled liquid wax on my boyfriend's cotton sweatshirt and now it's dried on there. Any ideas on how to get it cleaned? I don't think an ordinary wash in the washer is going to do the trick.

Seriously. What would cause an oven to turn on by itself? This morning ours did and the house filled with smoke, because it turned on to like 500 degree. The indicator light that is usually on when the oven is, wasn't even on.
