I have a sump pump and a drainage in the basement. If the sump pump circuit resets (which it has), I get water in the basement (I had to pull out all carpet). On one half, I did a ceramic tile floor for a living room area (which looks good). The other half (that has the drainage and sump pump and is slighly sloped)is a home gym. I need ideas for this area. It has to be waterproof and allow water to drain if necessarry. Any suggestions?

Think a little outside the box. Garage floor flooring mats, such as "coin pattern" can be easy to get, easy to lay, easy to maintain, quick to remove if flooding occurs, won't be ruined by water, etc. For about $300 you can get a 7.5 ft x 17 ft mat. Cut it to fit the room, align the two factory edges together and use carpet tape underneath to keep the seam tight. It's fast, and no mess. Plus it's a lot more comfortable than concrete. It's essentially a vinyl floor designed to take a beating. It's what I have down in my Home Excercise room. An example can be found at http://www.jnkproducts.com/coin_pattern.htm . Good Luck!

Where is the water coming from when the pump circuit resets? If it is seeping up through the floor you will not be able to seal it off using an epoxy. An epoxy sealant will seal the floor off from the water transfer and the water will build up between the floor and the sealant leaving you a big bubble. If the water is coming through the walls then an epoxy sealant can be used on the floor only. Make sure that if you get an epoxy sealant that you put traction in it for slip resistance.

It sounds like you need a new sump pump motor. They don't cost a ton and are really easy to install. You may have gravel in the impeller or worn out bearings in the motor. Do that then get someone out to install a battery powered back up motor just in case the main motor burns up again. These will work no matter why the main motor quits. We DO NOT recommend a water powered back up system. Too many problems with them.

I'm assuming your basement is cement...

So, I'd recommend just stripping it down to the cement and applying a lacquer finish of sorts or some varnish to give it a shine. This way, you don't have to worry about the water damage or mold build-up or even the slope in the floor.

You could even stain the concrete before you applied the finish...

Good Luck!

Acid stained concrete with an epoxy seal. I have this on the ground floor of a apartment complex I own & it looks sharp. It is also very easy to maintain.

ps. my rents are about 30% over market average. People are happy to pay that for the way the place looks.
