you can put it in the dishwasher.
or, you can get an inexpensive (at wal mart i think) hat frame, not sure if that's what they're really called, but you put your hat in it so that you can put it in the dishwasher, or even washing machine i think, and it doesn't lose it's shape or shrink.

I have a white Colts ballcap that is very dear to me as I am a very true fan of the team since they came to Indiana. The bill became soiled as did the inside band. I prespotted it with a regular laundry detergent and kind of scrubbed it with a toothbrush to loosen up the dirt, then it went in the washer by itself using the gentle cycle. (if the dirt doesn't come out the 1st time repeat presptting and washing until clean) DONOT DRY IN DRYER. Reform the shape of the hat after washing and let air dry preferablly on a form resembling your head. I used a coffee can,LOL. Mine dryed just fine and looked brand new. After drying, reshape the bill of the hat and you're good to go!

For my caps, I almost always wash in the washer with my clothes but I never dry them in the dryer, only air dry, this work very well. Pre-treat the liner or headband with a enzyme based laundry pre-spray before washing. I have also seen a cap frame which you can purchase for the dishwasher which holds the hat in place for washing in the dishwasher again removing after the wash cycle and air dry. To be safe be sure you wash your cap with similar color, i.e. don't wash a red cap with your white, you likely will be emailing a question on making your pink laundry white again. http://www.howtocleananything.com

Very gently by hand with cold water Woolite is a safe bet. When you are done rinsing, stuff the cavity of the hat with newspaper to dry and make sure the bill is correctly shaped. Change the newspaper as needed. This should preserve the correct shape.

I wash my husband's ball caps in the sink. I run some warm water our bathroom sink and add a bit of detergent. Then I let the cap set in the soapy water for about 30 minutes. If it is too dirty I will use a scrunchy to scrub the cap a bit and then I rinse it under some cold water and set it aside to air dry.

There is a product that you can use to do this. I am not sure what it is called but it is more or less a sort of metal net that you put it in and it goes in the dishwasher on the top rack. It really works--your hat will come out spotless.

They make a product that you put the hat in, it's a plastic open weave form. Then you can wash in the machine as directed, or in the sink, if you prefer a milder washing.

I never wash my game cap. I get a new one at the beginning of each season and wear it unwashed for every game. This is a superstition that works for me.
