Just kidding... 12 x 12 =......
And since you wanna do some sorta flooring, add 10% to that. If you are doing it yourself and have never done this, add 15%.

The answer in theory is 144 sq foot. But there are some factors you may want to consider first.
From what point did you measure the distance in your room?
If it was from wall to wall, perhaps you have skirting boards that will mean that it is slightly less than 12ft across.
Is the room exactly square? and is there no bays in it or perhaps even a fireplace or something which could mean the floor are was not square.
What about under the door? You would need more than 12ft there as it would have to go under the door, or up to it etc
But yeah 144 sq foot is right, but perhaps you would be better calculating room for any extra there may be.
Is it carpet? or laminate flooring?

144 sq ft but the amount of footage of material you will need depends on what you are covering your floor with:
carpet- you have to take in consideration the width of the rug, it may come in 10 ft wide only and you have to watch if there's a pattern or nap to the rug
tile- you have to have a waste allotment for cutting
linoleum- that would be the same as the rug the width of the product will be a factor as will the pattern
if you are buying linoleum tiles- they sell them by the boxes and the coverage should be listed on the boxes- but again, take into consideration the pattern..

As everyone seems to have got the basic answer right 144 sq feet.Divide144 x 9 =16sq yids , divide 16sq yds x 1.196 = 13.38 sq mtrs approx
If you are using new flooring it all depends on the spacing of your joists,ie, the wooden bearers to nail the floor to.if in doubt take the measurement, to the timber yard or allow 10% extra for off cuts.buying carpets take size to carpet shot and tell them this the exact size of room and you have not allowed for any fitting

12 X 12 = 144 square feet. But if you are trying to do an estimate for carpeting or other flooring that comes in rolls you have to take into account the width that the carpet is manufactured in and the minimum yardage that the carpet shop will sell you before you van estimate how much it will cost.

144 square feet PLUS 5% (7.2 sf) if your good at doing things yourself, 10% (14.4) if your only so so. The extra is for waste from cutting to get precise fits, and for future repairs should they be necessary. And like Alan C. said, measure precisely. Each additional inch in either direction adds up to another square foot.
